yeah, seemed like a lot of kids took an unordinately amount of visits right after their football seasons ended and may have rushed into some decisions. I can understand the need for a 3 or 2 star kid who needs to secure his spot or get left behind/over-recruited, but the big programs are going to hold spots for the top recruits, I don't see the need to rush. U can still have your 5 minutes of fame and same platform to announce on Signing Day too.

Recruiting is typically local. That's the danger with chasing the best and passing on the pretty good local guys like Xavier Henderson. Sometimes you hit a home run, sometimes you don't.
DE ______ vs Cox (they're going to get two quality local kids)
LB Mitchell vs Gaotete
CB Johnson vs Surtain/Cook (last year they won THREE of these and that is without Riep/Williamson)
S Proctor vs Woodbey
QB was a need and they got a high upside sleeper. Now they need Martell and their 2019 recruit to be hits.
RB was a small need and they did well here.
WR was a small need and they did a solid job.
TE was a huge need and they may have signed the best TE Urban has recruited (while he's prone to hyperbole, recruiting analysts have called him the best since Gronk).
OT hurts because they only have Wray, but let's see how it finishes.
C/G was not a big need and they got Jones.
DE will still be pretty good. It won't have a third consecutive 5-star DE, but Tyreke has some stellar upside.
DT was a big need and they had their best haul ever.
LB was a big need with their struggles and they hit big time on 3 guys.
CB has a ridiculous collection of freshman, better than any class ever.
Safety was a huge need and it was addressed.
So in the end, QB & OT hurt. DE will be more than fine, and while they're sad to miss on Cook, they frankly don't need him in this class.
Jones hurts a lot more because he was by far their top choice. They got a fairly rare level of upside in their late fallback in Baldwin, but as Bank says, they'd trade him in tomorrow for Jones.
Carman is interesting, because there are weight and maturity concerns, but his talent is undeniable. There's also the matter of how hard it is to project OL out of HS, which is why you have Pat Elflein, Billy Price and scores of MAC OL turning into NFL stars. Or why OSU failed to defend their NC because they didn't have another Darryl Baldwin in the pipeline, who might just be the MOST derided recruit (by OSU fans) that OSU has ever signed.
The finish hurts, and they had a chance for an all time class. Instead they signed a very elite class that does not register as an all-time great across all schools and years. That's not a requirement for success, that's a requirement for OSU fans enjoyment.

Do they dig for another DB with Woodbey out or just stand where they stand there?
Not sure what's available and if possible. Ohio seems pretty bone dry at this point unless you really want to reach

They still have an epic safety class (if you keep Johnson there). They could use another corner, though they are beyond loaded in the freshman class.
I think they should continue to swing for the fences (Surtain or any other undecided studs) and avoid any reaches before 2019.

It might be more accurate to say that Urban would trade for Emory's talent all day, though obviously Emory has not been mentally ready to compete at OSU for awhile. Not that he's afraid of competition or a weak prospect but rather that his heart was elsewhere.

You will always get more out of a person who's heart is in it.
Urban's challenge is finding the highest level of talent that wants to be part of how he does things. These misses on guys like Carman, Jones and Woodbey are just going to be part of the deal.
We would have loved to had their talent if they wanted to be at OSU but everybody has to live their own lives.
No hard feelings and BOL to them except when they play OSU.
I'm excited to see what kind of run these last two recruiting classes combine for on the field.
