2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

No one is saying that. It's fair criticism. The guy makes a ton of money. This is bad closing on his part, which is unusual for him. Guessing it's the early signing period throwing him off.
so first year of something and you expect Urban to be an expert. got it. I wonder how many other coaches in the country felt exactly like Urban (I'd bet MOST)... are you gonna have the same criticism of Saban if he doesn't end up with a top 10 class?

Bad closing? Are you kidding? What's Urban supposed to do, hold a gun to the kids head? If he wants to go to Clemson, he's gonna chose Clemson.

Come on, SD, this is not your first rodeo.

And let's not forget we picked up a couple of big-time recruits in the past few weeks. An out-of-state QB waffled for awhile, and Aundrey Walker 2.0 was never fully on board, so both just seem like the kind of guys who never end up signing with Ohio State.

Well, Urban had a "bad closing" last year as well, losing Tyjon Lindsey down the stretch, having no "wow" recruits for the final month (after long-time Buckeye lean Jeffrey Okudah formally committed on January 7th), and closing the class with a pair of three-stars (Elijah Gardiner, Thayer Munford).

Here's an interesting article about Urban Meyer's "new" recruiting philosophy: LINK

Here's the key quote from the article:
“He [Belichick] surrounds himself with players who he likes to coach,” Meyer said. “That’s a life lesson for me when I go out and recruit now and when I talk to our players. I’m at a point in my career where it’s the same thing. I want to be around people I like to coach. That’s the selfless, tough individuals that will help your team win.”
You can infer from this "bad closing" that Urban Meyer does not like to coach look-at-me shock-the-world Twitter prima donnas.

We lost Parsons. We're fine.
We lost Cox. We're fine.
We lost Jones. We're fine.

We lost the #1 player in Ohio to a team that beat us by 31 in the Playoffs last year on their way to the NC and is heading that way again. The number 1 player in OHIO (our back yard). The number 9 player in the country. To a team that is achieving our stated goals. It is not a pleasant message to send to the world.

We are OK. "Fine" may be a bit strong.

That said, on the first ever early signing day - nobody has it better than Michigan.

Jackson Carmen to Clemson...how in the world did this happen? Huge let down for a class already low on OL recruits..
Did people actually have Carmen penciled into this class? Maybe I'm in the minority, but I never saw him here. Strange recruitment from start to finish, and those don't usually end up going to the "chalk." Too much looking around, and calling out one of the best players in program history on twitter would seem to indicate otherwise. But maybe that's just me.
