tOSU Recruiting Discussion

SKULL SESSION: OHIO STATE SUFFERING NEGATIVE WIDE RECEIVER RECRUITING, BIG TEN STILL BALLING, AND MAKING MEATBALLS WITH JALIN MARSHALL AND DEVIN SMITH

NEGATIVE 'CROOTIN, BABY! Every coach in America denies negative recruiting. But deep down, there's at least one assistant coach talking shit about enemies to recruits.

With Tyjon Lindsey's decommitment, it's speculated Nebraska wide receiver coach Kenny Williams—an old Twitter nemesis of Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach "100 emoji" Smith—got in the head of the talented #teen.

From 247sports.com:

“Lindsey has been hearing from Nebraska how going to Ohio State just makes him another rotational guy,” the source began. “And they are saying look what happened to Austin Mack. They are showing him how at Nebraska they throw to the wide receivers. But Kevin Wilson can show him how the wide receivers got open and they threw to them at Indiana. It’s maybe the one hope.”

I have been concerned our lack of passing attack would start impacting recruiting. Thank Gawd that should change soon. Beck/Warriner if given the chance for a couple more seasons may have ended Urbans QB and WR recruiting streak.

I call B.S. on that article. If a kid can be swayed because a coach points out #s for 2 true freshmen, then he doesn't belong at tOSU. Victor flashed late season and in the CFP. Mack played in 2-3 early games, but dropped a couple balls. There are plenty of opportunities for looks if a kid is talented enough. Especially at the slot/H where Tyjon would be playing.

First off, the situation with our young receivers should be appealing to Lindsey. Had Mack lit it up early in the year and throughout, then maybe he would have concerns about seeing the field with Mack ahead of him. Campbell and McLaurin haven't really done anything. Secondly, I couldn't name you a Nebraska wide receiver if you spotted me his first name and jersey number. How in the world could that sway Lindsey to go to Nebraska because of their wide receiver "success?" They throw to their wide receivers? Really? They also get destroyed 62-3 by Ohio State (the same one with the offense that's being dogged by DUI Willy,) so they've got THAT going for them. It is just sooooo simple to see. A team with offensive struggles and still beat Nebraska by 59 points and has openings all over the WR core for the taking? Or Nebraska? My lord, it doesn't get easier than that.

Agree with many that the depth chart talking point by Nebraska does not carry the level of influence for drastic turn around change of former commitment.
Two factors would seem to be more credible.
1. Relationship between Lindsey and TM has been fractured and
2. Osu is vulnerable to negative recruiting by assistants " exposing " new O.C. Wilson allegations of putting his former players at risk.

And if you listed the rounds these players were drafted in, it would get even more embarrassing for how one-sided this really is. But hey, some kids want to make decisions based on reasons completely unknown to us and going pro perhaps is not important to some recruits.

Yeah I'm also scratching my head at some of the reasoning. If he picked USC or pretty much any other school on his offer list, I could understand. But Nebraska? Their passing game was worse than ours last year.

Nebraska's wr history is irrelevant.
It became so when Riley became HC.

Look I wasn't as enthralled with Lyndsey as most.
I put little credence into the stupid 7 on 7 circuit.
Given his size, injury history and our recent track record with smurfs.

It's obvious Lyndsey formed a bond with the Corn wr coach.
And there were rumors of friction with Tate.
At least he didn't wait until signing day.

I wish him well.

Their offense will be much more prolific in the future than it has been in a while and it's. It a stretch to think they will have better WR production. I think that was the point.

I'm not even sure where Tyjon fits in a Rikey offensive scheme though....

He will asked to be a traditional slot, as Riley isn't really a college spread system. He has always had a pro-spread system and I don't see Lindsey getting a lot of touches out of the backfield or motioned into the backfield. Anyways, good luck to him.....I think he's making a terrible choice based on systems and how he will be utilized but I've also always had a lingering feeling he'd be the next Dontre Wilson which isn't to slight Dontre, but it didn't really work out the way most imagined.
