tOSU Recruiting Discussion

It seems like the amount of activity and visits going on right now is abnormally high... I can't recall reading about this many visits in such a short amount of time before... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Recruiting has changed significantly over the years & a lot of these visits are being made by kids in future classes beyond '17. With limited/select spots left in the upcoming '17 class this is no surprise, but this is a trend all across the nation as schools try to gain the edge earlier in the process than they traditionally used to.

The trick has always been balancing making a kid feel special on his visit versus them getting lost in the pack when a bunch are visiting at the same time.

I can't even keep track of who all is on campus at any one time but I assume the coaches are on top of it.

Exactly, and recruits mention this all the time. I'm with you on the keeping track aspect, I can barely do it myself & I'm constantly updating the visit list.

My thought is that if a kid comes to visit and he looks around at the others visiting and all he sees are elite level recruits (and a bunch of them) it might influence his thoughts regarding the school.

It also emphasizes competitiveness.

Some kids are scared away by the competition and some are drawn to it... I'm sure Meyer views that as a good thing to determine.

I think this is why Alabama has done so well in the recruiting and USC and Texas did the same sometime ago. Kids want to play with elite talent

B1G RECRUITING RANKINGS: NORTHWESTERN LOADS UP FOR 2017, CHRIS ASH HAS WORK TO DO AT RUTGERS AND PURDUE IS STILL PURDUE

If you want to be a force in college football, you have to dominate on the field and in the living room. How are the Big Ten's teams faring in this cycle?

NO. 14 PURDUE // 1 COMMITMENT // 82.21 POWER RANKING

Darrell Hazell was named Purdue's head coach in December 2012. The Boilermakers ranked last in the Big Ten in recruiting the last two seasons. Purdue ranked 13th out of 14 teams in both 2013 and 2014 as well.

NO. 1 OHIO STATE // 13 COMMITMENTS // 106.40 POWER RANKING

Ohio State ranked first in the B1G with a .918 composite average for the 2016 recruiting class. Columbus has always been a destination for top talent. However, Urban Meyer has raised the bar since his arrival. Since 2012 the Buckeyes have finished first in the Big Ten in recruiting every year. The 2017 class would be a lock if it wasn't for limited numbers. The low numbers might keep Ohio State from winning the power rankings, but Urban Meyer's sixth recruiting class will again be at the top in composite average. This class is definitely about quality over quantity.

As it stands, the 2017 class is at 13 members. Will all 13 players currently committed to Ohio State sign in February? Probably not. The road ahead appears to be a very twisty one for recruiting in Columbus. If you're a fan get in the passenger seat, buckle up, and trust that Meyer will get you to your destination. It should be a wild and fun ride.

The only thing about our current commits that I might wish were different is the number of TE's. With the ND kid transferring over now too, seems like that would be a place to pickup a ship or two. How can you not take one of those guys though?
