I'm pretty sure that the Buckeye coaches feel plenty of angst when one of those 17-year-olds de-commits from Ohio State.Again I'm reminded of how much angst one can cause oneself if one assigns too much emotional import to the decisions of 17-year-olds.
Why? Because those 17-year-olds will eventually be asked to win games, conference titles, and national championships for Ohio State.
And to fill Ohio Stadium to capacity for each home game, and to generate highly-rated television broadcasts, for the benefit of fans like you.
And to make millions of dollars for the Ohio State athletic department, which is really the only reason to have a football team in the first place.
Like it or not, recruiting sometimes fickle, sometimes irrational 17-year-olds is the only way to develop and maintain a successful and profitable football program.
So Buckeye Nation, from Urban Meyer on down to the newest fan, is allowed to feel just a little bit of angst when one of those 17-year-olds makes a decision that might negatively impact the Ohio State football program.
