tOSU Recruiting Discussion

For those who think Washington would be going in as a DT into the NFL... he's more of a 3-4 DE, I could definitely see him drafted in the first 3 rounds as a 3-4 DE

doesn't count for much but...
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=125704&draftyear=2016&genpos=DT - 7th rated DT

That's seventh among juniors, I believe. It doesn't factor in any DTs that are seniors like Bennett, Goldman, Shelton and Williams, all of whom would likely be drafted ahead of Diesel.

I highly doubt that. Now maybe not a high draft pick, but he would most definitely get drafted in general.

He might get drafted I suppose with a good showing in the next game or (hopefully) two, but he would likely get up into the 1st or 2nd round with another year. Kids anymore need to appreciate that if you are picked in the top 3 rounds, a team basically has to hang onto you for awhile. Go beyond that and you are essentially the practice squad list without a dominant showing.

But either way, I think Landers is just a stud and needs to be a Buckeye.

Can someone give a review of the recruiting races we are still in and any potential surprises

Looks like spots are tight, so I am thinking we see only 2-3 more commits. Even with the Landers commit at DT, I think we need at least 1 more DT and preferably get 2 more. That being said, these are the remaining races:

Christian Wilkins- DT (Connecticut): Very highly rated DL and we have been in the thick of it for some time. Wilkins is incredibly quiet about the process though and should commit soon. To which school is anyone's guess...but it appears to be Ohio State or Penn State. Really hoping the relationship with LJ Sr. pays off, he is tearing up the UA All-American game.

Neville Gallimore-DT (Canada): I like Gallimore as an immediate impact guy inside and looks college ready (if not pro ready). Down to us, Oklahoma, and FSU but I believe it will be us or Oklahoma. Another guy that stayed pretty quiet but I think OU has the edge right now. Really hope I am wrong, he is my 1A (or since he is from Canada, my 1-eh?) and Wilkins is 1B. But I would not be shocked if he picks us tomorrow at the Army AA game, where he is set to announce.

Terry Beckner-DT (Illinois): Yet another top DT we are firmly in the mix for. If you want a prime candidate for surprise status, Beckner is. The quietest of all the DT prospects (which is saying something) and everyone is assuming Mizzou because his teammate committed there and that is where he visited the most, but there is no reliable info on his actual inclinations. We are pushing hard here and could very well end up with his signature. Ideally we get two of Wilkins/Gallimore/Beckner but I hope at least one.

Damien Harris-RB (Kentucky): We looked strong here until the season hit but it looks like Bama or Kentucky now. Unless something happens with Weber, I would be shocked to see Harris come here.

Isaiah Prince-OL (Maryland): I think we faded here but the recruits are working him hard. Would love to see him here, could be a franchise LT/RT here. I doubt we get him but it would be a nice (huge) surprise.

Porter Gustin DE/LB (Utah): Not sure where we stand with him but it looks like we are still pursuing. I see him as a Viper in the Thad Gibson/Nate Williams mold. Will visit soon and very well could be a surprise commit if there is room for him...I love his game and that would be quite a pleasant surprise.

- Anyone feel free to add on to this. I only included players with offers I think we have at least a remote chance with.

Since his announcement date is 3 days before tOSU wins the title, he either assumed Alabama would win or he does not care. And the tOSU running performance was far better than the much hyped Alabama running performance.

Let Harris go to the SEC, I'm fine with Weber. I'd much rather have 1-2 of those DTs, having Bennett and Washington has been such a positive for us, we need to keep the DT recruiting up to par with the DE recruiting. And Gustin is my dream commi to this class. He and one of those DTs to end the class would be amazing
