247 - Buckeyes land 2013 preferred walk-on LB

Jake Chestnut from Lakota West
I don't know if it is just my imagination but it seems like Urban is getting a lot of pretty good football players to come to Ohio State as Redshirts or are they just being publicized a little bit more this year.

Edit: from the same link by another poster Chestnut went to Lakota East not Lakota West.

I was thinking the same thing - I dont remember all these announcements of preferred walk-ons from years past. I've said this elsewhere, but just can't hurt to have alot of the "true Buckeye" types at practices, at training tables and around the program.

They are coming in as walkons, not redshirts. One is guaranteed a scholarship, the other just a place on the team.

 Litl knows the difference, but he's old...sometimes he gets his words mixed up. :tongue2:
Iron, you are correct:lol: sometimes I do get a little confused:crazy: but in this case Nasty is more confused than me because a Preferred Walk-On does not get a scholarship but is just assured that he will be a member of the team. He gets all of the luxuries of a member of the team but does not get a football scholarship.

Oh Oh
Edit: I do know that a Redshirt is a member of the football team. I am not that stupid even if I am old.

I don't remember them popping up this early. In years past the names of walk-ons started would usually start appearing during the spring.

I don't know if it still holds true, but I thought if a perferred walk on made the 2 deep, he would get a schlorship?

Preferred walkon = guaranteed spot on roster without a scholarship.

Coaches will sometimes award a stellar walk on with a full ride but there is zero compulsion or automatic trigger if a walkon is successful.

P.s. nasty was not confused about walkons. He was confused about sentence structure. He was saying the same thing I am

It's been answered several times but we'll add it to the verbal commitments list:

So far it's Sprinkle, Burrows, Lewis, Woodard and Barrett.

Eli Apple, Cam Burrows, Tracy Sprinkle, JT Barrett, and Tyquan Lewis. I could be missing one, but I think that's all
On the same note, I have a different question. Is Logan Tuley-Tillman going to enroll early? I've got a few choice words for him that would get me banned if I post them here. I hope he enrolls early next year so I don't have to wait too long to get them out... Don't really like holding it in.

Wow. So the schollie limit, sans sanctions is 85. Is there a roster limit?

The name of the game under Urban Meyer, is competition. He's getting as many bodies as he can. Fill up the schollies and then go offer preferred walk-ons.

I might not have been clear. A redshirt is guaranteed a scholarship. A walkon is only guaranteed a place on the team.
