tOSU Night practice Aug. 21

Wrong. It's a free event planned at basically the last minute, so nobody's entitled to anything from the players and coaches who are taking part in this "good-will" gesture toward the fans. And actually it was pretty organized, except for the obvious Tressel/Smith/Ginn goldrush. But hey, all I wanted from the players was some good hustle and competitiveness on the field--and I got it.
:osu:
Yup, couldn't agree more. People's sense of entitlement is beyond belief at this point. Geez, they give you a chance to see them for free and, if you are lucky and desire it, you might get an autograph. And they do the best they can under various constraints to offer this to fans, and yet some people react as if they've been cheated??????? Man that's sad.

I've watched this post most of the day. Some of it really bothers me. Below is a copy of an original post I made today on BN. I think (or hope) it represents a majority of what people experienced last night.

I've heard some of the players and coaches frequent this board, so I'd like to pass along a very big thank you to Coach Tressel for inviting us to his practice and all the players. Everyone I encountered last night during the autograph time was very patient and kind. I greatly appreciate the memories provided to my 6 year old son (and me too!) from this event.

My son came away from this event with two extra special memories. He has an autographed Buckeye football that was proudly placed on the head board of his bed last night and a new favorite player. Tyler Whaley, thank you so much for the extra time you took with my son and taking a picture with him. He, nor I will ever forget it.

Thanks guys, and good luck!

The OSU practice

Whats to complain about? We who couldnt get there are in envy of those who did. Ohio State was very kind to open its doors to the fans who love it.
You who went there had a premier Buckeye "fix" which the rest of us failed to receive. We had to remain at home and continue to watch and wait (and froth at the mouth). For us there was no autographs, no players, no boisterous and happy fans. No "Shoe", No Tressel, No "Carmen Ohio" and no Marching Band.
WE would have given out left thingy to be there.
Instead we settle for crumbs from the altar of our heros.

So Rejoice in your opportunity its only 11 days until kickoff.

:oh: :io:

I do find the critisisms distressing, I think both myself, my wife and I know both of my kids had a blast last night. What I would love to see, being the parent that I am is some time when you could have the players and coaches on the feild, and no one over 12 allowed, they would have to stay in the stands, parents included. Just let the team interact with the kids. That is what I saw yesterday, players eyes lighting up just for the kids and the smiles they got.

I don't know shit, but I would bet that the players would like that alot more than hassling with adults who act like jerks, even the polite ones, my nickle lies with a kids only event.

I agree I would have been more than glad to pay $50 to charity or more to get the autographs in a quicker manner. I am sure there are plenty of people like me that dont mind paying some money to get autographs and dont expect everything for free. In the future they should just have this kind of format where the money goes toward charity with a discount for kids.

Wow........:smash:

Does anyone realize that OSU did this as a good gesture to their fans? Unfortunately a few will probably ruin it for those (like Lou270 from above) who took their kids, and really made it a special day.

Sadly, I envision a whole bunch of Ginn/Smith autographs going up on Ebay very soon.

FWIW, I've never been huge into autographs, though I do have an autographed picture of Tressel. That one has a special meaning to me.

You look at some of those people in the lines and they have like 10 or 12 items to try and get signed. I wonder what they will be doing with those articles! :shake:

If they limited everyone to only one item to get signed the true fans would be able to enjoy their time better as would the players I assume.

Wrong, again. Just because an event is "free" doesn't mean it shouldn't be well organized. Now, I am absolutely in no way criticizing the intent of the event and the generosity of the players in signing autographs...not at all. I think it's great that they're trying to give back to the fans. But when any organization--whether it be Ohio State or any other--throws something like this together, they need to ensure sufficient controls are in place. When someone waits in line for hours only to find out he/she was given the wrong directions by event personnel, or there is no security to keep others from cutting in line, I can understand their frustration. If a fan is whining that he waited only for a little while and didn't get the autograph he/she wanted, then too bad. However, when fans get to the event way ahead of time and yet still don't get any autographs due to no fault of their own (being given wrong directions, having others cut in line ahead of them, etc.), then they definitely have the right to be upset.
