Game Thread tOSU @ Minnesota, Nov 15th @ 12p ET, ABC/WatchESPN

Well HeaterGate was uneventful - turns out Minny asked the Vikes to let OSU use those benches and they agreed.

It's much ado about nothing; the weather in EL last week was nearly identical to what will be faced this weekend.

That would be BS if it was "it's our homefield advantage - live with it" crap. One team gets an amenity that the other doesn't? "Hey, Michigan. For this game, our visitors' locker room is in the Olentangy. And your benches - we're making them out of toothpaste. And your team's coaches' box - instead of being up there in the pressbox like everyone else, your team's coaches need to try to coach from a dumpster out back. Don't like it? Too bad - it's our homefield advantage."

If it was a blizzard, and everyone on the Minnesota team had lived in blizzards and practiced in blizzards, and Ohio State tried to convince the Big Ten to move the game into an indoor facility, that's different. But this is saying one team gets a perk the other doesn't. If one team doesn't get it, the other shouldn't.

There are some angry Gopher fans right now about the Vikes letting your team use their heated benches this Saturday. Any of you following this story? For some reason the U asked the Vikings if OSU could use the heated benches and the Vikings were fine with it. The Gophers of course have heated benches but not the visiting sideline typically. I usually don't get annoyed with little things like this but even I'm a bit mad about this. Our weather up here is part of our home field advantage. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out the next couple days as there are a lot of angry Gopher supporters. I wouldn't be shocked if the decision is reversed.
Denying the opposition the same equipment/facilities as you have isn't "home field advantage". What's next, no benches at all? Denying the opposing coaches headsets? Big difference between weather and equipment/facilities.

Yep the U asked the Vikings if it would it would be OK and of course the Vikes said sure no problem. I just don't understand why the U would even ask. I don't care much, it's certainly not going to determine the outcome of the game at all and you're right it's much ado about nothing.

In regards to the weather I don't think it's a huge advantage for the Gophers but it may be more than some are thinking. The Gophers can practice outdoors all week in 20 degree weather. The players are walking to class all week in 20 degree weather. There is something to be said for getting acclimated to temps that low. Living it on a daily basis definitely has an effect and the first time the players hit the field Saturday morning I promise you the Gophers will feel quite normal with it, even comfortable to a certain point. We're talking 15 degrees Saturday morning NOT including wind chill.

There is no rule requiring any school to provide heated benches for the visiting team. Of course we would have our own, we need them every season. We have NO obligation to provide the same for visiting teams, none. And comparing this to not allowing visiting coaches headsets is quite the stretch.

It's not like you're playing a Florida team. Ohio gets its fair share of sub 20 degree weather as well.

I can guarantee you that it is not as big of a advantage as you think. I've lived in Green Bay, Madison for over 7 years now, and I have NEVER gotten used to the cold.

Also, lets not forget, you guys have tons of southern boys on your roster.

Playing in the shitty weather you are used to is an advantage -- having heated benches while the other team does not is bush league, in my IMO.

Maybe OSU should ban the visiting team from having fans and water coolers during those late August 90 degree games?

This is a GPA for me lol...

Honestly the Minnesota coach who had an issue with us getting equipment just needs to get a life. You forgot the two legged drone from robo cop standing at the 5 yrd line that we have to get by as well.

Also forgot to mention next year i hope you bring your own team issued jet packs because those will not be provided to you.

You have no "obligation" to provide a fucking visitor's locker room either. If you think it's OK to provide creature comforts to your team but not the visiting team, then your team deserves the plunger job it has coming this weekend...
