Game Thread tOSU @ Indiana, Sat 10/3 @ 3:30p ET, ABC/ESPN2

I don't get the whole "this happened last year" mantra because it certainly DID NOT. sure VT shut us down but we then rolled every team progressively worse every week after. We had two weeks were we struggled (the first two) but then really started to build on good performances with the occasional hiccup like Pedo.

I fully believe JT shouldve been the guy just from a leadership stand point and IMO he will be the starter by years end. I have no reason to believe that the offense is going to magically not crap out every game.

I don't disagree on JT. I also feel that he should be the starter, hands down. With that being said, go back and read through the Tom Herman thread from last year. We had many of the same conversations early last year, but I think expectations were a bit less after the Va Tech game, plus we were young. You've just got to trust Meyer here, he has won 3 titles for a reason.

I remember saying the same thing early last season about Herman and I ended up being very wrong. I hope we end up the same way this year. On a side note, I think dontre Wilson has earned more touches. He seems to be the most active guy on offense outside of zeke and thomas.

The biggest difference to me is that I felt like I had a clue what the offense wanted to accomplish last year. I have zero idea of what the game plan is this year. Do we even run that offense anymore?

I do: The offensive gameplan. Save for a couple of bad throws in the endzone and that brain fart on 1st and 25, I thought Cardale played well in the first half. The play calling was absolutely awful the entire first half until they went hurry up. Now Cardale was bad the second half (and the other offensive players didn't do him any favors) but the play calling was atrocious. I don't think the offense would be that much better if JT was running it in all honesty. This is 2012 levels of ineptitude we're witnessing.

Perspective:
Today we beat an undefeated team at their house. We are now 5-0 though we are not playing all that well on Offense. We should have put up 50 plus points today but had to settle for "just" 34 points.
Meanwhile:
Ole Miss lost
Notre Dame lost
Georgia lost
UCLA lost
WISKY lost
MSU almost lost to a pedestrian Purdue team.

Sure tOSU has a lot of work to do. But it could be worse.

GO BUCKS!

OHIO STATE REMAINS UNBEATEN BY ESCAPING INDIANA, BUT STILL HAS MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS OFFENSIVELY

60807_h.jpg,qitok=MThUS202.pagespeed.ce.yb4OeFxqQM.jpg

Urban Meyer didn't even know what had happened at the end of the game. All he knew was that his team remains unbeaten.

"I couldn't even see it. What happened?" Ohio State's head football coach said Saturday, asking the reporter for an update on what went down on the final play of his team's 34-27 escape act at Indiana.

He was told cornerback Eli Apple knocked away Zander Diamont's last ditch effort in the end zone with the clock reading 0:00, giving the nation's top-ranked team its first Big Ten win of 2015. Then, Meyer nodded and pursed his lips as he waited for another question.

He knew it wasn't pretty. He knew it wasn't what people expected. He knew it was a win, but he also knows of the climb awaiting the defending national champion.

"I think I've learned to enjoy it, but I'm very frustrated," Meyer said.

The Buckeyes turned the ball over three times against the Hoosiers Saturday, a team that was previously unbeaten but sat worst in the conference defensively, allowing an average of 499 yards per game. Ohio State managed 517 in the game, but an interception by Cardale Jones and two fumbles from Jalin Marshall prevented the door from being all the way shut on the Hoosiers until the final whistle.

"The turnovers have to change right now. I mean, right now," Meyer said. "There's a couple of ways to do it, just keeping coaching and emphasize what we do. And second, the guys who lay it on the ground just can't play."

Buckeyes Win Wild One Over Hoosiers in Second Half Shoot Out

ZekeDive.jpg

Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott ran for a career-high 274 yards against Indiana and scored three times in leading the No. 1 Buckeyes (5-0, 1-0) to a wild 34-27 win over the Hoosiers (4-1, 0-1) on Saturday.

The 274 yards rushing tied for second all-time in OSU history (with Keith Byars in 1984) and 243 of those yards came on just 13 second-half carries for the Buckeye tailback.

After the game, Urban Meyer said the big hits came from a change to their blocking scheme. OSU went with more gap blocking instead of zone blocking and the Hoosiers weren't able to adjust in time.

The last of Elliott's three touchdowns came with just under 11 minutes to play in the game when he took the hand off and went 75 yards for the score, giving the Buckeyes a 34-20 lead that seemed to indicate that Ohio State could relax a bit.

Perhaps doing just that, the OSU defense took the field on the ensuing possession and gave up a 79-yard touchdown run to Hoosier backup quarterback Zander Diamont, making it 34-27 still with over 10 minutes to play in the game.

Time and again the Buckeyes would take control of the momentum in the second half only to see the Hoosiers snatch it back in a myriad of ways. Even after IU starting quarterback Nate Sudfeld had to leave the game in the second half with a foot injury, Ohio State couldn't put the Hoosiers away.

The Buckeyes, who trailed 10-6 at the half, fumbled the ball four times on the afternoon, but they were fortunate to lose just two of the balls they put on the ground. Cardale Jones also threw an interception. The Buckeyes lost the turnover battle 3-0, and Indiana scored 10 points off of those turnovers.

Ohio State didn't waste too much time recapturing the lead in the third quarter when on third and two from their own 45-yard line, Elliott took the hand off up the middle, made a cut to the left and then took off down the sideline, finishing with a dive into the end zone to give the Buckeyes a 13-10 lead.

OSU moved the ball right back down deep into Indiana territory on their next possession, but IU linebacker Tegray Scales stepped in front of a Jones pass at the Indiana 13-yard line and returned the interception to near midfield. The Hoosiers would cap the drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to reclaim the lead at 17-13.
