Post game .02:
Offense
-Miller was trying to do too much by himself in the first half but you can see him starting to slowly mature on that front and distribute the ball
-Sparty tried to bait him into throwing to the slot twice that I could see and he fell for it both times, luckily neither was a pick 6.
-He's growing as a QB and game manager, he's tough as nails and he won that damn game. Still a long way to go but if this is still the upward part of the curve I'll take it.
-The OL holy shit what a difference a year and a new coach makes.
-Backs and receivers continue to get better, no 3rd down drops I can recall off the top of my head. Philly Brown still trips over grass too much but they are getting better. What else can you say about Hyde and Hall?
Defense
-4 opponents in a row who's coaches have watched film and decided to not even try and run between the tackles on this defense.
-The downside is they continue to spread us out, take short drops/shot gun and hit quick passes to WR's while we play way off. It's maddening. 3rd down defense % is 35.8, good for 47th nationally.
-Pressure seems to be getting better although the MSU OL was a known sieve coming into the game.
All in all you have to be happy with the win but plenty left to improve on.
From what we've seen so far it looks like the teams left on the schedule that can hurt this defense the most are Nebraska, Purdue and to a lesser degree scUM. PSU and Illin have the types of offense to do it but I don't think they have the horses.
The good news is none of those teams has a defense anywhere near as good as Sparty.
P.S. That fucking bastard #66 from MSU better get suspended. Cocksucker.
