Just a random aside but I don't understand why everyone is crediting Dontre with a drop on that first drive. That wasn't a good pass by Barrett---Wilson had to break his stride and lunge down to try to catch it. Yeah, he could have caught it, but it wasn't a good pass.
Agree. When it happened I called it as a coverage sack to my son. The replay at field level showed how well the back seven did on that play. Credit that sack to the secondary.About the D. That huge sack was due to the secondary covering. That is something we didn't have at all last season.

Oline like Urban said really struggled in the first half but the second half they took over. Barrett had lots of time that 2nd half and we really started gashing them up front near the end. If not for that 4th down stuff we really played nicely in the 2nd half.JT Barrett: 12/15, 226 yards, 80% comp, 15.1 ave yards, 1 sack, 2 TD, 1 INT, 237.2 QBR, oh and 9 rushes for 50 yards, 5.6 ave.

Just sayin: He won't be carrying the team on his back (like Braxton); he just did what we need him to do, i.e. make good decisions and put the team in a position to win. I'd give him a very high grade for the game, and hopefully he only gets better as the season goes on.
If the O-line had been as good as last year it would have really been a blowout.
Kudos to the D-line, especially Washington and Bennett.

It looks even better for Barrett if you throw in completion percentages. Part of what I liked about Barrett's performance is that it wasn't all quick hits and check-downs. He had the deep completion as we all know, and several good mid-range downfield throws.

You're making it sound like he had to make a leaping dive to catch it, which would be a different story. It was definitely not in stride, but Dontre was completely wide open and had no one within 5 yards of him.
It was definitely a catchable ball.
That's what I liked. He actually had to make some real throws, and looked pretty good doing so. Aside from the one bad INT, I thought he was pretty close to flawless throwing the ball. Looked really good, and that gives me hope for the season...if the OL can block better than they did the first 3 quarters today. COme to think of it, given the pressure he was under, I think it's quite impressive he really only had the one bad throw. He didn't look like a kid taking his first college snaps, and first live game snaps in 22 months to me. Very impressed.11W elaborates on the bit of trivia I posted earlier:
