tOSU at Navy (M&T Bank Stadium), Aug 30th @ 12pm ET, CBS Sports Network

With Braxton going down, I felt the NC was out of reach regardless of the amount of talent on the offence. I am however excited by what I saw from JT. JT made some mistakes but we really just need to see improvement week in and week out. We'll see that from him and the rest of the offence.

The D still has a ways to go. A good showing next week will go a long way. I think overall there will be some challenges this year but it should be a ruin year. Looking forward to it. The Navy game may end up being one of the three toughest games the Bucks play this year.

Hard to grade based on Navy's unique offense, but pursuit and tackling by the back seven don't seem to have improved much, which is very frustrating. On the other side of the ball, if and when the offensive line gels, WATCH OUT! Glad we got the win

/my irrelevant two cents

Okay...some thoughts.

  • Um
  • Err
  • Weeeellllllll...
Okay, I don't know what to take away from that. Are we gonna get the team from the first three shitty quarters, or the one that seemed to pull it together in the 4th and enforce their will? I don't know. I'll give this another try....

  • JT Barrett- I think we have a QB. Yes, he made some mistakes, but for a kid making his first college start, I thought he played pretty damn well. And, the kid is unflappable. Even after those mistakes, he didn't look down. He just went about his business. Once the OL started to give him some time in the pocket, I thought he played exceptionally well.
  • The OL- Ugh, the first three quarters were U-G-L-Y. Really UGLY. They played much better in the 4th Q, but was that Navy just running out of steam? I don't know, but this is an area of major concern for me.
  • The youngsters- Dontre/Curtis/Zeke/Jalin. Dontre looks like a totally different player. More decisive. Quicker. Runs with more purpose. He could be REALLY good this year. Curtis- Looks like he could be a significant part of this offense too. Played very well. EzE- Hard to take much away from that game as his role of "inside/power runner" was made infinitely more difficult by the sieve that was the interior OL for most of the game. Looked good in the 4th, though. Jalin- Like what I saw out of him early on. Didn't see much, though.
  • Defense- No idea. Can't take much away from a game against a gimmicky offense. We know nothing about the pass D. The DL looked stout most of the game. LB play was scattershot...sometimes looked really good, but then seemed to follow up a big play by losing contain on the option and allowing a big run. In short...we need more information.
  • Special Teams- Kicker and Punter look to be in very good hands. I think Dontre will end up breaking a couple returns this year.
Excited about: Dontre, Samuel, JT, the Defensive Line
Nervous about: The LBs, and the OL...my God, the OL.

Two pieces of trivia that are not meant to draw conclusions about this team but rather tear down a few that people were ready to make earlier in the afternoon:
  • The last time Ohio State played Navy they played at home with a more experienced team. That game came down to the final play. That Buckeye team went on to win the Rose Bowl.
  • JT Barrett's first start at quarterback was better than Braxton Miller's (vs. Colorado; 5 of 13; 83 yards), Terrelle Pryor's (vs. Troy; 10 of 16; 139 yards) and Troy Smith's (vs. Indiana; 12 of 24; 161 yards)
