tOSU at Minnesota, Thurs. Sep 2nd, 8 ET on Fox

That shit got annoying when they adopted all of these cringey gimmicks their cringey, boat rowing coach does years ago. How the fuck do you willingly adopt boat oars as stickers when he brought that shit from a different school? That's like someone coaching at Boise, moving on to a middle tier P5 team, and bringing the Smurf turf with you.

Even more pathetic is that Minny actually has a history to be proud of.

Can’t really argue with what you’re saying, gimmick-wise, but in their defense, they do have, like, 10,000 lakes up there.

I assume it had to do with us down DB's I don't think we ever played the Nickle package they were talking about.
Shouldn't be an issue. You can drop 8 from your base defense, ie Alabama game pick from our DE. We don't have to show our hand by our personnel on every down. You can drop 8 any time. Plus we have enough DBs that we can play a nickle, which we did a ton, and drop 8. I think it is more the lack of imagination from Coombs. There seems to be little to zero defensive imagination.

The guy was on the ground for a bit so they overreacted, same as when Trevor Lawrence rolled around and got Wade ejected.

Thankfully it was just the announcers freaking out and not the refs this time.
Yep. My wife was saying that she was hoping it wasn't targeting and I was telling her they were not reviewing for that, they were reviewing for a fumble, which is exactly what it was. OSU should have had a TD on the play so in a way, they got shafted.

Okay. Thought? Thoughts…

  • Hats off to the varmints. They played hard. Boat rower had a solid game plan. They hung around, but eventually, talent won out. Good show.
Good game plan, but I think Ibrahim would have survived the game without the injury if they had passed more, or found a way to give him a breather occasionally.

Two things:

1. Kerry Coombs better update his résumé
2. Had PJ Fleck had a better team, he would have beaten us.

Hey, we all cheered when Coombs came back as DC, so I'm willing to give him a chance this season. For what ever reason a couple of the better DBs didn't play though. Ibrahim and their OL may just very well be the best RB with that solid of offensive front that we see all season. Hopefully the defense will improve against Oregon.

But you have to wonder if we could have landed Marcus Freeman.....:roll1:

Couple thoughts...

1. I apologize @RB07OSU I really tried to get on here to contact you but I had no reception from 330pm on.

2. Offense started slow but the second half was awesome. CJ settled down, the coaches stuck with an RB and we started going down the field.

3. Defense... oh the Defense. Way too much WAY TOO MUCH subbing in and out. Get your best 11 on the field and seriously stop. 2 of their first 3 touchdowns saw our back secondary in. Not sure what's up with Banks and Brown but hopefully that helps.

4. Coombs... It's game 1 but not a fan with how we called today. We finally adjusted after they gained 170 on the ground but then we never adjusted to the quick slants. Really need a better game plan starting next week.

5. Credit to Minnesota though. I knew they'd get theirs but damn their OL is legit. I'm serious that might be the best OL we face all year.

Just strange game. We get an INT that's called back, we give up a 4th and 1 inside the 40 and a tipped ball is picked off. I thought we'd rotate more at WR and less on Defense. IMO we would benefit to do the opposite. Substitute a lot more at WR and much less on Defense.

A lot of their pass yards came on us basically playing soft and saying we aren't going to risk getting beat deep anymore and if you can go 3-5-10 down the field and eat 5-8 mins a drive congrats to you

I know the starting corners were out but the defense was shredded in obvious pass situations (with the RB out) by one of, if not the, most pedestrian passing attacks they will play all year. Tanner Morgan is not good. They were completely one dimensional at the end and their best WR was out.

Names have changed but it feels like I just watched the 2020 Buckeye defense.

There is time to get better but man oh man do they need it. Really disappointed in the D.
