Game Thread Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 20 (final)

fwiw, scUM, iowa, michst., northwestern & minny were all ranked when we beat them.

that being said, i think nd is definitely a formidable opponent who rolled some average teams and hung with USC. but, i don't see them beating us with zero running game. let brady throw 70 passes, but a one-dimensional domer squad shouldn't beat us.

They only played, I guess, 2 big games by your definition. I am not going to attempt to put words in your mouth, but it just reads like the argument you could be making is that because they are 1-1 and we are 1-2, then they are the better team. I am saying that they didn't have the opportunity to go 1-2, unless you still consider Mich St. and Tennessee "good" teams.

Tennessee had an excellent defense against the run, though ND was able to take advantage of their weaknesses in Pass D in the 1st Quarter and in the latter part of the 4th quarter in that contest. (Pus there was the huge return by Zbikowski).

Tennessee's Pass D is measurably worse than the Buckeye's BTW.

Notre Dame (9-2) at Ohio State (9-2)
The Irish are making their third bowl visit to the Valley of the Sun to play a school with the initials OSU in the last six years. The previous two pilgrimages, a 2001 Fiesta Bowl emasculation by Oregon State and last year's Insight Bowl thumping by those same Beavers, were Catholic cactus calamities. The Buckeyes, meanwhile, are seeking their third Fiesta Bowl win in the past four years.

That logic dosent work.

Michigan was 4th when ND beat them.
Oklahoma was 7th when TCU beat them.
Tennesse beat number 3 LSU after UAB came within 7 points of knocking off Tennesse who was then ranked 3rd and are now not in a bowl.

Now i feel like im knocking tOSU, but i'm trying to defend my point, and my point is toss out whoever we played and whoever they played because come january 2nd in tempe it's not going to matter. There going to play their best game of the year and were going to play to our full potential. Weis wont be a factor, IMO because of the simple fact that we're too damn good. This team should be in Pasadena and we all know that. Dont belittle ND by saying they didnt beat anybody because our scheduel is tougher as a whole but in terms of games won were almost even.

It kind of works if you're talking about the last few weeks of the year. NW was 25 and we beat them, so they had to go down. When you beat a #25 Pitt in the first week.....who then proceeds to lose their next 400 games, that's a different story.

guys:

the Buckeyes played the BCS rated #s 2, 3, 20, 25, 26, 27, 40, 65, 69, 79, and 87 teams.

the Irish played the BCS rated #s 1, 20, 38, 40, 45, 59, 67, 70, 96, and 106 teams.

the scUM wins are a push. however Ohio State beat 5 top 40 teams. the Irish beat two top 40 team (#38 Purdue).

the Irish lost to the 7th best team on our schedule. Sparty was the 3rd best team on the Irish schedule...

does that give you any insight into the levels of competition that each team has faced?

If you wanna get really technical what were the margins of victory!! Just kidding. Your right and I was wrong with what i was trying to say. I still stand by my quote above though.
