Game Thread Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 20 (final)

For the past couple of weeks I have been reading the boards on both sides and have seen more smack being thrown around than I saw on the Michigan boards before The Game. Now, I realize that this game is going to carry a lot of hype, but I am sick of the Notre Dame love fest, not on this board per se, but in the news and on the television. Let's get one thing straight. Notre Dame should not be in this game. They dont deserve it. I dont care if they took USC to the final seconds. THEY ARE NOT THAT GOOD! They played one good game all season and all of a sudden they are one of the best teams in the country? BULLSHIT.
There is less than a week before this game. All I am seeing anywhere are articles about how well Charlie F'n Weis is preparing his team and what a great coach he is. I realize that Tressel will have the MEN prepared for this game, but I am sensing a bit of a lack of intensity by the OSU fan base. Tempe is our second home. Our fans, as well as our team need to be FIRED UP! WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR HONOR, WE NEED TO SEE ND AS THE ENEMY, Dont be afraid to stand up and shout at every one you know that THE NEXT TWO WEEKS ARE NOTRE DAME WEEKS AND WE HATE NOTRE DAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, I digress.....is there anyone out there who is with me on this? This is just like a rivalry game. Almost as big as tsun. For the next two weeks, no music in this house but The Buckeye Battle Cry, Fight the Team Across the Field and Carmen Ohio. Every morning I will stand on my porch and Shout OH! and know that someone somewhere will respond. Why? Because we are Buckeye Nation and our strength is unparalleled and our holdings are vast. It is time to rattle our shields and thrust our spears in the air. IT IS TIME TO GO TOWAR!!!!! AND WE WILL WIN BECAUSE NOTRE DAME SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET'S GO BUCKS!!!

So, can you tell me how thow you really feel ?

Weis makes Irish offense hard to pin down

By Doug Harris
Dayton Daily News
COLUMBUS | The New England Patriots won three Super Bowls with Charlie Weis as their offensive coordinator, and he's working his wizardry at Notre Dame, too.

The Irish are sixth nationally in scoring at 38.2 points per game and 10th in total yardage at 489.1 per outing — a 14-point and 144-yard hike over last year.
Sure, he inherited 10 returning starters, but he was handed Spam and turned it into a gourmet meal.
No wonder ND — which faces Ohio State in the Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl — rushed to lock him up for 10 more years at a reported $40 million.
"They'll run any play out of any formation," OSU defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock marveled. "They just do so much of everything. It really gets you thinking about how much time they've put in on offense. It's mind-boggling.
"They're more like an NFL team."
Junior quarterback Brady Quinn, a Dublin Coffman product recruited heavily by the Buckeyes, has already set school records for completions and yardage in a season and career, blowing past the likes of John Huarte, Joe Montana and Joe Theismann.
And sophomore running back Darius Walker — another recruit the Buckeyes courted — became the ninth ND player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, having racked up 1,106.
"I think Charlie does a great job with balance," OSU coach Jim Tressel said. "He runs the ball well in a variety of ways, not just one or two.
"He does a good job of moving his pocket around. You can't tee off on where Brady is going to be. He distributes the ball so well. He throws it to Darius. He throws it to the tight end. He throws it to the wide-outs. I just think they give you a lot of problems."

Bucks get a break

The Buckeyes will have a week off for Christmas after today's practice before leaving on Dec. 26 for the Fiesta Bowl.
Tressel has encouraged his team to forget about football and enjoy the respite, and most intend to follow orders.
"For a regular week, you'd probably make sure you ran and worked out," sophomore receiver Ted Ginn Jr. said. "But now, you've got to make sure you see everybody — your aunties, uncles and cousins. And you've got to take time off.
"I don't think it's really going to hurt you (stamina-wise) in a week. You just have to be ready to go back at it."

Bowl blues

The Irish have lost seven straight bowls and haven't won a postseason game since beating Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl in 1993.
But Tressel doesn't view the Buckeyes' three-game bowl winning streak as an advantage.
"We're both 0-0 in bowl games this year," he said.

Yay. Another article talking about how great Charlie Weis is. He might yet be a good coach, but lets not forget that the only thing he has led a slightly above average team to 9 victories over mediocre opponents at best. He is exactly 0-1 in big games this year as a head coach. I will give him this, he has figured out effectively how to get the most out of the talent he has. The stats don't mean a whole lot based on the quality of opponent that they were built on. I wonder what the press will be saying on January 3rd when Weis "the genius" wasn't able to out coach the mundane Jim Tressel.

I would call Michigan a big game for them, and us. Putting them at 1-1 in big games and us at 1-2.

We havnt set the world afire in big games either. What teams in the top 25 currently did we beat? We cant control Iowa sucking ass just like ND cant control Tennessee being only a "mediocre opponet at best." Shit happens, but we didnt beat anyone big besides a 4 loss michigan. Not saying we arnt a good team, those two losses we have could go either way. However the same can be said for ND. MSU had a fluke of a game, and the USC game came down to the last play. Dont overlook ND. I think we'll roll but I respect ND almost as much as I do Michigan.

Last time I checked Iowa was in the top 25...Tennessee is nowhere near as good as Iowa. I think the Minnesota and Northwestern wins are pretty impressive too. Notre Dame played USC, Michigan, and crap. We consistantly played tougher teams than Notre Dame. We also didn't lose to any crap teams like they did with MSU. We lost to #2 and #3 teams in the country. I'll take our 4 biggest wins, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern and Minnesota over Notre Dame's 4 biggest wins (and no, the USC game doesn't count).

X, i see what your saying.. i guess my point is we played some shitty teams and they played some shitty teams and we cant bank on the fact they played a weaker scheduel. I know week in week out we played tougher teams but when they were presented with a big game they preformed to a point. Im just saying dont look past ND soley on their strength of opponets.

In 2002 we never beat the hell out of anybody of note down the strecth but still were the best team in the nation when all was said and done. Im ot comparing 2005 ND to 2002 tOSU but dont overlook ND by wins and losses.

I also dont consider MSU anywhere near as good as PSU. And we played at happy valley ..at night. Our 2 losses have more "quality"(if a loss can have quality) than NDs.
