If any Pac-10 coach does decide to fuck us by not ranking us then they should be fired. Good thing we're not competing for a spot against an SEC team or Fat Phil might try something sneaky.

It wasn't me that said that, but I'll give you some of my reasoning.

No playoffs is one of the many things that makes CFB unique. College Football was never meant to produce a "National Champion", which is why the NCAA does not recognize a Div1A champion. The media does. The fans do. But the governing body does not.

Bowl games were designed to reward schools for a great season. A chance for the team to play someone they normally don't due to regional games being the norm, and a short vacation for the football team to a warmer climate at the end of fall quarter. And the extra ticket sales didn't hurt. They were never meant to produce a "National Champion".

Do I seem old fashioned? I guess I do to an extent. But I'm fine with that.

I disagree and so does the NCAA. CFB is meant to produce a National Champion. The NCAA does it in every other football division, basketball, hockey, etc. They don't do it for 1A because it's the biggest sport and some gentleman put together the Bowl System to capitalize on that popularity. The BCS is a tool to produce an NC....it just happens to suck.

I'm not Scooter, and he's answered just above this post... but, also, I'd add -

As is - Every game matters. When you have to pretty much run the table, the whole year is the playoffs.

I'm presonally in favor of a playoff... maybe 4 or 8 teams... but, the strongest argument I've heard against the playoff is that College football is the most exciting sport for the whole season because every game matters.

What also makes cb football so unique is each school has tremendous pride(well, maybe not Duke or Temple:biggrin: ) and plays to be the best. And obviously the NCAA does want a national champion because they have playoffs on every level but D1-a. Playoffs=right in my mind. You're entitled to your opinion but I strongly disagree with it.

You make some good points that I agree with, but here are my thoughts:

It would be nice to know that if you lost one game, your season hopes weren't completely shot! Also, we have lately been a slow starting team that plays well late in the season...which would serve us well in a playoff.

Hell, I'm not even a big basketball fan, but I get pumped for march madness. I can't even imagine how exciting that would be for football!
