Tom StrobeLLLL (hairball castoff......transfer to Ohio U)

Sam Webb: Let's talk about Mentor defensive end Tom Strobel. The 6-6, 250-pounder is a lifelong Ohio State fan, but he has taken a few visits to Michigan and Michigan State. He talked about taking a visit to Stanford. Do you think these teams are going to be able to loosen the Buckeye grip on Tom Strobel?

Allen Trieu: I think the grip on Strobel had been loosened before (Tressel resigned). I really do think he was always going to give Michigan, Notre Dame, and some other schools a legitimate shot. He visited Michigan before all of this even came out. I think Michigan and Notre Dame have a very legitimate shot for Tom Strobel. I think he still will look at Ohio State, but I think it's pretty even across the board for him.

Bill Greene: I would put him in the wide-open category. I think he is a Notre Dame, Michigan battle. I think Ohio State is lurking. I certainly wouldn't put Ohio State as the favorite. I think they've lost a lot of ground with Tom Strobel. I don't see Tom Strobel going 3,000 miles away to Stanford. I could be wrong. If he visits there and falls in love, you never know. But I think Michigan and Notre Dame are in really good shape for him.

not that I like ESPN's rankings in regards to anything recruiting, but right now they have UM's 2012 incoming class ranked at #6. And that's without Strobel. Quite the class coming in next season, and it's mostly on the defensive side of the ball.

I think it's likely we end up in the top 3 of the Big Ten for this class. *Rumor* has it that we picked up another commit from another recruit, a four-star offensive tackle from California (Erik Magnuson), too.

Edit: It may be more than a rumor... Rivals' Brandon Oliver just tweeted it:

La Costa Canyon OL Erik Magnuson just committed to Michigan...big pick up for Big Blue

This sucks.....best of luck to Tom. Still have a hard time figuring out how a coach with a sub .500 winning percentage is reeling them in but kudos to their staff, they must be able to sell snow to an Eskimo.

I feel confident in Luke`s ability to do much the same if he gets the job. Go Bucks

Not too surprising really, especially if you are a defensive player. There is lots of playing time available up north.

it's not so much Hoke as it's these kids wanting to play for Mattison. In my IMO.

I think this is right, and Mattison's and Hoke's friendship may be the best thing about scUM hiring Hoke. Strobel is a HUGE get for scUM, IMO. I would like to know if OSU's problems had anything to do with his decision. Difficult to believe it didn't.
