Mentor junior defensive end Tom Strobel has already received plenty of attention and several offers from big-time college football programs in the offseason.
Sunday, it hit close to home.
Strobel took an unofficial visit to Ohio State for Junior Day in Columbus, and after attending the first quarter of the OSU basketball game against Indiana and speaking with several members of the coaching staff, including head coach Jim Tressel, he left the state capital with an offer to play football for the Buckeyes.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound third-team All-Ohioan also has offers on the table from Stanford, Michigan State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan, among other BCS programs. While he said the interest from OSU is "humbling" and the day was one he won't forget, he is no closer to making up his mind.
"I'd like to make my decision before the season starts, that is my goal, but I am no closer now than I was before," Strobel said. "It was an amazing experience and Coach Tressel is such a great person. It was so nice to sit down with him and just talk. Not even about football, but about my family and Mentor and school and everything. It was a really good day.
"This has all been very humbling. I am fortunate to be in this position and to get the kind of attention I have received."
