Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

he doesn't need to be brilliant and ground breaking.
he just needs to know how to recognize when someone is throwing a Playstation defense at him, and how to beat it.
there's a reason that crap (usually) only works on Playstation: because people are smarter than the AI.
Yeah but it's not like Urban couldn't recognize that D or have Herman tell him and call a play himself. So if you're saying Herman isn't smart enough then you're saying Urban Meyer isn't an offensive mind strong enough to do the same.

Wait, a coach might take the heat instead of saying that the line and receivers played purdue football?
In general I agree with you with the exception that I believe coach has been honest with his assessment that these areas aren't performing at the level we need them to. Meanwhile many insist he's protecting his staff...which is unsound analysis.

I think Herman can improve as a play caller but I don't think that was a major factor in why the offense struggled last week. An average line walks away from that game plan with a win. Same thing with the wrs, or kicking game, or return unit. All of those areas were extremely rough and made any play calls unlikely to have consistent success putting up points.
