There is something to be said for being at a place (and in a conference) where you can build a power, win 10 games a year, and the fans/alum will build statues in your honor, vs a place where 10 wins a year will still get you fired. $3mm a year at Houston is a pretty good paycheck and affords him the opportunity to be super-selective about his career advancement opportunities. He's also been dragging his wife and kids around the country for a decade and has sounded pretty eager to drop roots someplace and settle in for a long haul.
Southern Cal, South Carolina, LSU, etc may all appear prestigious at first blush, but the grass isn't always greener on the other side ...
As Lou Holtz has said, bad jobs are the only ones that are ever open. If it was a good job the last guy would still be there.
There is nothing prestigious about SCe. Just saying.
