Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

You used to call me on my
You used to, you used to
Yeah

You used to call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
Call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
And I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Ever since you left the city,
You got a reputation for yourself now
Everybody knows and I feel left out
Tom you got me down, you got me stressed out
'Cause ever since you left the city,
we started scoring less, and struggling more
Struggling in the rain out on the football field
Hangin' with some coaches I've never seen before

You used to call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
Call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
And I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Ever since you left the city, you, you, you
We just don't get down the field
You make me feel like I did you wrong
Going places where you don't belong
Ever since you left the city,
you, you got exactly what you asked for
Running out of pages in our playbook
Hanging with some coaches I've never seen before

You used to call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
Call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
And I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

These days, all I do is
Wonder if you runnin' up the score for someone else
Wonder if you're winnin' conferences for someone else
Doing things I taught you, gettin' nasty for someone else
You don't need no one else
You don't need nobody else, no
Why you never alone
Why you always touching road
Used to always stay at home, be a good coordinator
You was in a zone, yeah
You should just be yourself
Right now, we're someone else

You used to call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
Call me on my head set
Saturdays when I need your plays
And I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing
I know when that hotline bling
That can only mean one thing

Ever since you left the city

Bruce Feldman was reporting this morning that according to sources Kirby Smart was the front runner for the South Carolina job.

Sources: Houston’s Tom Herman no longer a candidate to coach South Carolina

But Herman has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to sources.

A salary raise to $3 million a year was approved for Herman last week at Houston, where the Cougars are 10-1 in his first year on the job after a successful stint as offensive coordinator at Ohio State. Herman could still be a candidate for other jobs, but the option of staying at Houston – with a loaded team for 2016 – appears to be a growing possibility.

South Carolina's Plan B could be Kirby Smart, the Alabama defensive coordinator. Smart has rebuffed other head-coaching opportunities to stay with Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa since 2007.

However, Smart also is a Georgia graduate, and if embattled coach Mark Richt leaves or is fired, it could create another opening that could attract Smart.

Apparently Herman doesn't want the USC job; I wonder if he has some other opening in mind or he actually wants to stay at Houston.

Herman needs to strike while the iron is hot. He plays in a rinky dink stadium that is WAY off of campus with no atmosphere.

He will never be much hotter than right now. He may not be ready for a big time job but 4-5 million dollars may make the learning curve easier to deal with.
And take which of the jobs that have been offered?

Wait till season us over and take the best situation.
No matter who? Take the best job that comes along after one year's experience? That's your advice as we sit here with no offers yet on the table?

If a big time program offers Herman after only one year on the job then that AD better hope it turns out to be a home run hire. Otherwise it will cost him his job. I'll be surprised if any such offers come.

Ideally you'd want a few years at a Mid Major... but when the likes of USC and potentially Texas, Georgia, and LSU are on the board... that kinda goes out the window. Those jobs aren't available very often.
As for ADs taking a gamble on Herman... one need only look at the names of USC's last 2 hires to know Herman is better than either of them.

Honestly, not looking forward to seeing him at a Texas or USC. Staying at Houston is best case scenario for Ohio State right now.

Put yourself in Herman's shoes.

Could you turn one of those jobs down?

The bidding for coaches this off season will be unlike any time in modern history.
Yes. Because he is not ready. Big jobs are about building coaching teams and getting the job done. Herman needs a bit more time in the shallow pool before he can take on the sharks.
