Tom Herman (Former Head Coach FAU Owls)

He's The Hottest Coach right now and no amount of money will stop the top teams(USC, Texas ,etc) from going after him.
How could he not talk to them if they come calling?

There are a handful of destination programs. One of them has an opening now. Another will have an opening next year if they don't have a better season. I have no idea how much longer Urban wants to coach, but I'm guessing TH isn't going to wait around Houston until the tOSU job opens if he gets offered by another top 5 program. With the pay bump he's been offered he can afford to wait for one of those destination jobs to open up if he doesn't get USC this year. I'm not sure if he's a big enough name for USC, but I would be terrified of what he could build with that talent base.

No reason for him not to take this deal after negotiating it up because the 2.5m buyout is nothing for other programs. No job yet this year is worth it for him to leave, not with what he's returning next year on top of the talent he is bringing in (Oliver could win DPOY as a true frosh). If he gets USC, great...if LSU moves on and calls, great....if not, wait around and see if Texas, or A&M, or any other legit destination job opens up next year. No way he leaves for a VT or Mizzou or USCe.

I wouldn't go to the SEC. If I were him I'd wait for Texas, USC, tOSU, or scUM if he wanted to break all of our hearts.

I don't know.....LSU is a pretty nice gig. Great in state talent with no other in state teams to battle with, a very consistent and supportive board so long as you don't have a personality that rubs them the wrong way (not that I'd ever accuse that of Les....). Not the highest of academic standards to worry about getting players cleared....

I don't think Herman will leave after 1 year. I think he'll realize that working another year at Houston will make him a better head coach in the long run, and he'd rather be well prepared to take on a LSU or USC a year later than now. There will always be high end college football jobs opening up, and as long as he stays successful at Houston, he'll always be a top candidate.

I agree to an extent, but top 5 jobs don't really open up every year so if USC offers I think he has to take it. Texas is probably a better option for him and it sounds like they are going to stick with Strong for at least another year, which could work out for both parties.

Unless Charlie decides not to stick with Tejas... which I just can't see "knowing" the kinda guy he seems to be. However if they get boat raced in the last two games... don't count on anything.

Only thing is that when guys have waited, sometimes their window slams shut. I remember in particular Gary Nord, who won UTEPs only modern era conference title and was conference COY in 2001 I think it was. He was a red hot commodity that year, but he decided to stay...and it was all downhill from there. I don't think Herman has to settle for any job, but if the right one comes calling, he might be wise to strike while the iron is hot.

Of course a second way to look at it is, doesn't the Big12-2 want Houston to join? If they enter a Power 5, he could create a national power there.
