So do you agree that he needs to work on his passing like his own coaches have said?

Of course. He is far from the complete package he will be in a few years. But he is the unquestioned leader of this team. He leads in the weight room and film room. In the classrom. He brings to this tream a certain something we have not seen in years- even with Leak's freshman year, where he won at LSU in their MNC year. So much of success is team chemestry, and he is well liked and respected by his peers. He is a "winner."

He may never be a great NFL qb. But like Danny W was for SOS, he is a great fit for a certain college system and coach. His arm strength is not a question. As has been said, he is perfect for the dink and dunk system we use. Considering that everyone in the stadium knew what he was going to do when he ran, his success there was better than hoped for.

While much of this is my own optimism, it is not based solely on orange and blue glassess.

that's all good, but I still don't see how you can come close to calling him a "great qb".......

Gator - I think you have to agree that having seen Tebow throw the ball 21 times the jury is out on if the kid will be a great QB. That statement takes nothing away from his performance last year and doesn't mean the lad can't run up the gut (or to the left).

Obviously you watched more Florida football than I, but in what game exactly was Tebow the difference? I ask because I don't know... but when you say without him Fla doesn't win the NC, I'm thinking there must have been some game that he was the difference in.

Anyway, I suppose with all the hype surrounding Tebow at Florida, and that we're not Florida fans, we look at him with a more critical eye.

To be charitable, we had a tough time in most SEC games. We barely got by several teams. In every game we won, Tebow was critical in third and fourth converstions. His running in those situations kept drives alive that led to scores - game winning scores - in the SC, LSU, UT, and FSU games to name a few. Now, that is in a role as a tailback, if you will, more than a qb. But our running game was unspectacular.

That's what I figured (Knowing that Tebow's role last year was to be the power running game, pretty much). Fair to say he's a gamer, fair to say he likes pressure situations and has shown the athletic ability to perform under those pressures... unfair to say he's a great QB (at this point). Potential? No doubt.

I honestly believe that Tebow is going to end up a Heisman candidate(if not winner) before he's done. The kid is a freakish athlete and fits Meyer's system perfectly. When you look at the success Alex Smith had in his system (yes, against weaker competition), you're fooling yourself if you don't think this kid will be a star. Sceptism is understood being that he only threw 21 times last year, but I am impressed by the way he was used last year. I look for him to be a stud, if not this season, then next. My opinion.

Oh - and I'm a Gator Homer:biggrin:

(his performance as a freshman ranks with the best that I've seen. He may crash and burn, but the spring game looked very promising)

Honestly, Tebow isn't even a good college QB yet. Yes, he has athleticism and potential, but let's see how he fares as the starter in 2007 before we anoint him as "great" or a "Heisman candidate".

i will be quite frank here.......i didn't read any of this topic......quite frankly because i don't need to.

tebow has POTENTIAL to be a good QB from what he has shown in high school, but considering he has yet to play a college game yet, then nobody really has any clue how well he will do in college. secondly, tebow came in as a SITUATIONAL QB for the starter leak. tebow came in and ran the ball at QB and most teams keyed on that since that is what he did the majority of the time, so when he passed he threw teams off, and had an easy throw and catch most of the time. if he was the full time starter, we have no clue how well he would do, unless you think florida is planning on switching to a 95 nebraskaesque offensive scheme where tebow runs the ball all the time, and even in that absurd case he wouldn't have the value of deception with leak being gone. the kid has potential and hey maybe he will be as great as he is currently overrated to be, but the matter of the fact is right now nobody knows, and anybody who claims he will be a huge bust has just as much credibility as the ones that claim he will be great. time will tell.

Since we're discussing fan favorite freshman quarterbacks that showed that they were tough kids as freshman by taking other roles than quarterback in their first year. Did anyone see Steve Bellisari run the wrong way on the goalline and cost his team a win in the AFL this week?
