Tebow's a pretty good passer, no doubt, but Meyer certainly wasn't stupid to keep him from throwing more. Stafford and Mustain weren't bad QBs coming out of HS, we saw how they did as starting QBs. Tebow, if he doesn't cut it as a QB, will probably move to FB or LB, not RB. He was a pretty good runner from the QB position, but it's a lot about having an extra blocker and having the threat to run. Moving full-time to RB will largely take away those advantages.

Maybe not stupid, but it wouldn't have hurt if he threw 10 or so more times. Even if it was in the games we were ahead by a bunch. Like Central Florida.

Because of what he did at Nease. It is the same thing. The fans thought he was unbelievable, and then realized that he is human. The same will happen with Tebow, very possibly in a harsher way. He has a lot of improving to do if he wants to keep the fans happy.

Who gives a crap with that on his arm. Yowza!

Tebow - Great QB? (Split from Donovan Thread)

bigballin2987;855055; said:
Yeah, he really lit it up through the air last season.

Yeah. Owns the Florida high school passing records, and still was willing to play the supporting tailback role that his coach put him in. What a jerk. He should be more like Bigballin and try to emulate your success on the field.:p

Firstly, last season he was in college. Secondly, are you comparing his football talent and achievements to mine? I don't think you would find anyone who would disagree that Tebow is a better player than I am.

Nah man - just kidding and getting my Donovan angst out.

Really, you must admit he was ordered to be a short yardage roll guy.....with a resulting opening up in the passing game in one or two plays that I don't recall...

We'll know soon enough. No excuses for Superman this fall.

Here is how I feel about him. I saw him play in high school, and am well aware of his accomplishments. But you can't tell me you don't think he wasn't disappointing passing the ball with what he was able to do in high school. Sure, he can run the ball, but he would get so much hype for completing a 1 or 2 yard run for a first down. Leak could have done a lot of what Tebow did on the ground, IMO.

It will be very interesting to see what he does next year. Firstly, he is not going to be able to run the ball like he did last year. Secondly, he needs to work on his release. I think he is in for a rude awakening in Gainesville. Leak was UF's savior for his first year and a half, two years, and then the fans turned on somewhat. Right now, he is a god in Gainesville. I will get to see him every home game next year, so only time will tell.

When did he even get to pass the ball????? What are his season
passing attempts? Not too damn many. That is not his fault.

He went 12 for 21 against Div 1-A teams for 158 yards. As you know, most of his completed passes were swing passes. I am not bashing him for the sake of bashing Florida. Most intelligent Gator fans (those who comprehend you don't have to support everything about your team to be a fan) agree that he has some work to do before he can be a great quarterback.

Oh I think he is a great qb. How great a passing qb remains to be seen. He was a FRESHMAN running the plays that he was asked to run. Not his fault. That he threw swing passes was not his fault. Without Tebow we do not win the MNC. Can he be the pure passer we would like? Dunno. But he is the qb we need for Urban's system. Leak was not, for all his success. Tim is not the second coming. But he is good enough - with enough stats to back him up - to earn more than your scorn for a play that resulted in a touchdown against one of the better defenses of 06. Just my opinion. We'll see...

So do you agree that he needs to work on his passing like his own coaches have said?

The guy has thrown 21 passes. I don't see how he can be considered any type of "great qb" at this point and time.

And at this level all qbs just run the plays he was asked to run. I don't see how that's a valid criteria.

Gator - I think you have to agree that having seen Tebow throw the ball 21 times the jury is out on if the kid will be a great QB. That statement takes nothing away from his performance last year and doesn't mean the lad can't run up the gut (or to the left).

Obviously you watched more Florida football than I, but in what game exactly was Tebow the difference? I ask because I don't know... but when you say without him Fla doesn't win the NC, I'm thinking there must have been some game that he was the difference in.

Anyway, I suppose with all the hype surrounding Tebow at Florida, and that we're not Florida fans, we look at him with a more critical eye.
