Scapegoat implies that the person being punished isn't guilty of something. Or in this case, isn't the main reason for something.

If Beck leaves I will know that UFM does what he said he would do when he was hired - constantly evaluate the coaching staff and expect alignment with his philosophy.

If you take out the rushing stats from each of our games with MSU and scUM, and also take out the B1G CCG so we're only looking at regular season stats, scUM would jump from #18 in the country to #5, and MSU would drop from #7 to #18 in rushing defense...and that's just taking out our games against them. Obviously the weather came into play for the MSU game, but timid, head-in-the-turtle-shell play calling is what killed us. We went semi-deep only twice and one of those was when JT missed a wide-open Miller which would've been an easy TD...why we did not go back to that play is a mystery to me.

No. It's not the only way to achieve those things, just pointing out that if Beck is not retained it's not necessarily due to a message board mob mentality.

Unlike many, I'll readily admit that I don't know. I truly do not know whether or not Beck was the reason for our offensive shortcomings. There were a lot of things going on this year that were outside of what Beck did/didn't control. I'd be just as happy as everyone else if he truly was the only problem and that we could simply plug something else in. But as is most often the case, it's probably a lot more complicated than that.
