The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

I guess I see this a bit differently...it was a well crafted episode, don't get me wrong, but if that was the "biggest cliffhanger ever" as the producers were claiming, it was rather a letdown to me. A cliffhanger is having Daryl pointing his bow and Rick or Joe, one lives, one dies, and you don't know who he'll pick. A cliffhanger is Herschel having to kill in "cold" blood to keep someone else alive, and you aren't sure if he can or is willing to. A Cliffhanger is seeing Glen and Maggie's stuff in the bone and blood pile (that was creepy) and not knowing if it is them or not. A cliffhanger is them walking toward the rail car, stopping in front, opening the door, and...fade to black. A cliffhanger is not a Zombie Apocalypse High School Reunion in a dark railcar followed by a Rick Rambo speech. I thought the episode was good (I think they overdid the farming parallel symbolism bit a tad) right up until then...but I think they sort of spoiled it at the end a bit. On the plus side, the Joe group death was a little quick, but it was certainly brutal...Rick going all Bejamin Martin from the Patriot on the creepy rapist twat was pretty cool. Didn't understand the whole "I'm not what my dad thinks I am" thing, though it could forshadow Carl and Rick being Devastation Incorporated going forward...if they don't end up coming to blows with each other, that is. Beth is swtill missing, Tyreese, Carol, and Judith still haven't arrived...unless that was their voices we heard crying for help as they were running though the compound, that is. Looks like we will see a much more sadistic Rick going forward...which makes sense. Interesting to see if they all follow his lead.

DId everyone hear the cries for help as they were running through the compund trying to get out? I thought that might be Beth, or Carol, but of course we don't know.
I didnt catch that. I must have missed I must have missed it in the action or thought it was themselves asking for help. I wonder if Carol and Tyresse happened to be watching the scene and maybe they know the truth, which will lead to the escape.
I am glad that psychotic Rick is back, makes for good tv. I guess building up to it with farmer Rick is part of what makes it good, seeing the transformation like Jeckyl and Hyde

Okay, maybe cannibals. I missed this:

The Shag also pointed out that Rick and his group were being "herded" into the boxcar area and then placed in cattle cars. I guess they would know these sorts of things. That, and the Termites were intentionally not hitting Rick and his group because you only want to kill your meat when you're ready to eat it, good point there.

That said, they like to refer to Carl as "Corl" which I think is hilarious.

I remember getting pissed that they were such bad shots (almost felt like it was Woodbury invading them all over again with the accuracy) and realized they were getting herded.

I thought it was a great episode until the last 30 seconds...the farthest thing from a cliffhanger ever, which is ok. What pissed me off was that they got all suspenseful like Rick was going to drop a bomb on them with an earth-shattering secret...and he just says "They messed with the wrong people." Meh. I also thought that the immediate escalation at Terminus was absurd considering how much they have been building up to it. I thought we would get a couple episodes before they reveal how twisted the place is. Still a really good episode though.

They'll probably spend the first half of the next season at Terminus, trying to escape. Given the pace of the show, that's my guess anyway.

I just assumed that they didn't want to shoot and kill anyone and have them turn, thereby wasting a meal.

I thought it was a pretty shitty episode to end a shitty season. Why did they spend the whole episode last week getting Daryl in with the other group just to kill them all in the first 2 minutes? That confrontation should really have been the climax of the episode and then end it with them outside the fence at Terminus. Maybe go as far as Rick noticing the watch, riot gear, poncho, etc and then end the episode with everyone wondering what happened to the rest of the group and what would Rick do next.

This season was full of so many wasted episodes. We'll see if it gets better in the fall. The only bright spot is that they should be setup for some pretty good action next season.

I think farmer Rick was also brought back because they will be headed to Alexandria (speculated to be the "A") next season. I think it's sort of the two Ricks that are in constant conflict, the guy that wants to live "normal" and raise his son and the guy who will turn a dude into flounder to keep him alive. I have to say this is the first interesting thing they've done with Rick in like 2 seasons, and I was really happy with it. They finally did something interesting with him after he was missing for what seemed like months, so there was at least a "payoff" there, especially heading to next season.

That was the good...the bad is that there is no real way they can drag Terminus out very far, because if they were being herded to be dinner, then people are going to start hitting the grill pretty quickly and they'll have to do something drastic. I watched again, just the end, and it looked like everyone was present and accounted for, so I don't think anyone has been served with parsley yet...except maybe Beth. Interesting thing about the cried for help I heard...I looked for the Box Cars to see if they were running past them, and I didn't see them...but I did see two semi cars sitting there, so there could be more people in those...maybe they become filet peopogn first, and that sparks the group to action. I don't know, but I can't see Terminus lasting long...Carol and Tyrese have to get there, and then something has to happen. Elvis the Scientist is there, so my guess is they head to Washington next. As I recall the Hunters disappeared pretty quickly in the comics, so despite my hope of them being the main antagonists in season 5 (or, at least recurring ones to feed on the occasional stray) it looks like maybe 3-5 episodes and they will be toast (and bacon) themselves.

A couple of other questions I had...they all looked like they were working on something at Terminus when they entered, like drafting plans or signs or something, at individual workstations...wonder what they were doing? Did Mary get shot? When Rick turned he got the dude he was holding shot, and it looked like Mary went down, but I couldn't tell...maybe she becomes Foie Humanas?

Yeah, I would have liked to see more from Joe's group, like maybe have Joe escape or something (Rick could have ripped some other guy's throat out I guess to achieve this).

As far as action for next season, Kirkman alluded to the fact that all the major characters survived in the second half of the 4th season, which is a first. They wanted the show to be able to "stand on it's own" without a gripping death. On the other hand, he said that will likely lead to a lot of deaths in season five as compensation.
