Driving a $50,000 2011 Yukon if you're a star Bama RB = crickets from the NCAA so far.

Driving a 1990 Camry if you're a Boise State WR from the Netherlands = 4-game suspension.

NCAA official: "There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch!"

NCAA: Recruiting violations led to Boise suspensions

BOISE, Idaho -- Two of Boise State's three football players with Dutch ties were suspended at the start of the season because of recruiting violations and for taking illegal benefits, including one player who received a car and payments to cover auto insurance, NCAA officials said.

The statement issued by the NCAA Wednesday provided the first explanation for the one-game suspension handed down to senior safety Cedric Febis and the four-game suspension served by sophomore receiver Geraldo Boldewijn. Officials say the investigation into sophomore defensive tackle Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe is still pending.

Febis, who was held out of the season opener, was penalized for "recruiting violations and receiving impermissible transportation." NCAA spokeswoman Emily Potter declined to share details of Febis' infractions and instead referred inquiries to university officials.
Later Wednesday, the school issued a statement that said Febis had paid a $20 reinstatement penalty to go along with his one-game suspension.

In Boldewijn's case, NCAA investigators concluded he received $700 in illegal benefits, including a car and insurance coverage. Boldewijn has repaid those benefits, according to a story first reported Wednesday by The Idaho Statesman.

The school later revealed more details. Boldewijn was suspended for "impermissible use of a 1990 Toyota Camry with 177,000 miles and driver's insurance coverage," according to the school statement. The school voluntarily held him out of the first three games and his four-game suspension was complete after the Broncos' win over Nevada last weekend.

Cont'd

So Boise State had more football issues than a bunch of guys arriving early and staying in other players' apartments before they were enrolled, which the media tended to gloss over as ticky-tack violations.

I haven't seen who provided the Dutch kid with the old Toyota and paid for the insurance on the car. Whether that's a minor booster, a prominent booster, or possibly somebody on the Boise State staff makes a big difference.

Here's an interesting article that in some way could relate to Boise State

Monson: For Utes, Pac-12 reality bites like a four-legged dog

"Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces."
Coach Sigmund Freud spoke those words, referring to a football team and its fans that eagerly stepped up from success in a lesser league, dreams on fire, to three straight losses in a greater one, shattered embers burning.
Coach Abraham Lincoln put it this way: "How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn?t make it a leg."
Which is to say, the Utes are in the Pac-12, but not of the Pac-12. They are a dog with four legs.
They now are a BCS-league team, an appellation some mistakenly thought automatically would make them a better team. Turns out, it?s merely a label, a designation coming at a steep, competitive cost. As they?ve found themselves struggling to adjust to their new environs in their new league, somebody stopped payment on their reality check.
In those three conference losses ? one on the road and two at home ? they have been outscored 89-42, putting up 14 points in each and allowing the margin of defeat to grow from nine points to 17 to 21.
While listening to Kyle Whittingham answer questions following the home loss to Arizona State on Oct. 8, I reflected back on his expression in June, 2010, at the party in the same stadium announcing Utah?s invitation to the Pac-12. Everybody else was cheering and celebrating. He, on the other hand, looked like a man whose molars had just been extracted by a plumber with pliers. He essentially said that day he could see the locomotive that was rolling his way.

i kind of hope they go undefeated this year. they aren't screwing us out of a spot....so i'll enjoy somebody else's fanbase going apeshit when they are denied a shot at a title.

I think I might agree... The whole damn thing has turned upside down in the last year so fuck it - why not?
