The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

We did it in 2014 to Baylor and TCU...

The way I see it is OUs big selling point is OSU lost by 30. Its not what they did but what we did and I think if thats the case then what do they really have?

They have zero top 10 wins and we will have 2. If we crush NW and I think we will I wouldn't be shocked to see us jump OU.

I think the Committee has changed since then. We heard a lot about process that year, what it would've took for tcu and baylor, week to week was flui depending who you played... total changeover in voters, theyve gone dark, and the polls are even more SEC/ACC biased and rigid week to week than AP.

IF both us and OU win I think it comes down to how each team won their CCG. If it’s close, it comes down to the 1 loss and they lost by 3 to a ranked team that made a CCG. It’s a long shot for us but I would not be feeling good about a 4 spot against Bama (only way we get in is if Bama wins against Georgia and a little extra) win the B1G and get the rose bowl and I’m good with that. I wish tOSU could win it all but I just don’t see them at that level yet. Hell of a game today but the defense and penalties would kill us in a top 4 game.

The way I predict the ranking *should* sit after tonight...
Bama
Clemson
ND
Georgia
OSU
OU

OU almost lost that game, so they really shouldn't move up because of it. Georgia gets UMs spot and we take Georgia's spot because of the way we beat the hell out of the #4 seed. But in reality it's likely they us at #6 since they are penalizing us so much for Purdue.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I really didn't think we deserved to be in CFP this year, mainly just due to how bad our D has been and I could see potent offenses destroying it. I don't think our D changed overnight by any means, but the way we played today gave me enough pause to really compare our record with the rest of the top seeds a little closer.

Let's break this down...
- Bama is clearly a beast and it's almost a foregone conclusion they are winning it all, so no problem with a #1 for them.

- Clemson is undefeated, but their schedule was so soft I don't know how you hang your hat it on, and the only two teams with a pulse nearly beat them. They boat raced a bunch of pigs and there isn't really a signature win for them. I don't disagree with the #2 here, but I don't think this means they are a #2 caliber team of years past, and I also don't think they are a lock for the playoffs depending on how these championship games play out.

- ND is undefeated, but again they have soft ass schedule. The only signature win they had was against UM and it was a by a single TD. They almost got beat by 3 nobodies. They have rarely looked dominate despite their soft schedule. They will not play for a championship. In my opinion they really don't belong at #3. If UCF is at #9 being undefeated I don't see why the Domers should be sitting no higher than 6. They are not the third best team in the country IMO and I think it's BS that somehow they can be a lock for the playoffs with sitting out a game despite their schedule. I think if the committee holds true to their system (unlikely) there is a chance they could get bumped out. If there is a situation where a conf champ gets left out with a better resume for these assholes because they take a bye week while everyone is playing that is some bullshit. If they do get in I have little doubt they get their asses handed to them in the first round.

- Georgia is solid, but I don't see them beating Bama in the Conf Champ, so they'll be out. No one is going to want to see a repeat of last year's CFP. Who knows though, maybe a SEC conspiracy crops up to let Georgia win so they can get two teams in the CFP again. Bleh... this is the worst outcome for all fans except Georgia's.

So the way I see it is this... Bama is in no matter what. If Georgia wins that means Clemson will either need to shit the bed and/or one of the bubble team victories will need to be so impressive to dislodge ND (due to weak schedule and penalty for no champ game).

But if Georgia loses and they likely will... there is at least one seed for sure open to either OSU or OU. Let's assume we win the Champ game because if not this is all moot because we without question don't belong.

If OU loses we are in. If OU wins and OSU wins I think it really comes down to the style points in the wins. OSU took a bad loss to Purdue and we had a close game with Maryland. OU took a loss to better Texas team, but they had 3 close calls with pigs and played a fairly weak schedule. If we both win, but we look dynamite, there is a chance we get the seed. If we both look dynamite there is a chance that ND gets the boot and OU and OSU both get in.

The better question is... do we really want the seed this year? I'm not sure only because our D has been so suspect that I think a team like Bama, and to a lesser extent Clemson, could score like crazy. I don't think our offense could offset that despite how good it is. I think we can beat ND 4 out 5 times, which is probably the only thing that sticks in my craw about the idea of getting left out is that they would be getting in.

If OSU doesn't get into the playoffs, I'm OK with it. If you lose to Purdue they way they did, you have to check your expectations at the door. But any OSU fans that doesn't want a chance at the CFP's was not watching the game yesterday. Urban Meyer is a big game coach. Give him a few weeks to put in a plan and they can get after Alabama. If they win, then the 2/3 seed would be an earlier task with a weeks prep.

Yeah, but has any team ever actually done that? Lose to an inferior opponent and then sneak into the playoffs as a 4 to whoop the shit out of Bama? Can it even be done?
