So I’d argue we could’ve kept it under 29 if we had packed it in and ran out the clock. The points they tacked on at the end were from us pushing in desperation. I’ve also blocked that game from memory, so I fully admit I could be way off base there.I may sound like a broken record. But give up 14 instead of 28 in 4th Q of Purdue game and OSU isn't in debate for the fourth spot if they take care of business. It is a debate between ND, OK and perhaps Bama. We can bitch about all of the other close games all we want, but the others in the debate for last spot are no better.
I think UGA is a better team than ND but there is no way they get in over NDAfter thinking on it... yes we have that bad loss but when you compare us to ND we beat NW/scUM much more comfortably than they did.
If I was really being honest to myself I would have it..
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. OU
4. UGA
Then I want the committee to come out and say losses are bigger than wins. Because we have bigger wins than any of the 4 that are likely to get in besides Bama. That should negate a lot of that loss.Yep. I'd love to play ND because I think OSU would beat them. But when 6-6 Purdue beats you by 29 points - the only team they beat by more than that was fucking Illinois - you don't have to look for conspiracies or bias to figure out why you're not in the top 4.
None of the teams we're debating has a loss as ugly as ours. It matters, even if we don't like it.
more like notre dame is down to 4. i'd be shocked if either bama or clemson would rather play oklahoma than notre dame. i sure as heck know i'd rather see osu face notre dame than bama, clemson, or oklahoma. it's not even close. So now Oklahoma is up to 3?
I don't disagree, but they were 3/5 coming into this weekend and Oklahoma didn't really do so much today, so it would feel like yet another arbitrary flip-flop from this committee.more like notre dame is down to 4. i'd be shocked if either bama or clemson would rather play oklahoma than notre dame. i sure as heck know i'd rather see osu face notre dame than bama, clemson, or oklahoma. it's not even close.
i don't think it's arbitrary if one thinks notre dame is one spot worse than oklahoma. after all, "coming into this weekend" doesn't include the outcome of this weekend. today was a data point that notre dame does not have.I don't disagree, but they were 3/5 coming into this weekend and Oklahoma didn't really do so much today, so it would feel like yet another arbitrary flip-flop from this committee.
Sure but this team also looks average in a fair number of wins as well. I didn’t come out of this game thinking we belong in the playoffs. Then I want the committee to come out and say losses are bigger than wins. Because we have bigger wins than any of the 4 that are likely to get in besides Bama. That should negate a lot of that loss.
stats vs people... stats always lose538 has OK 3 OSU 4 ND 5. Which would be amazing.
I'd die happily if that happened. Don't even need to watch the playoff.
my guess is 538's mathematical model heavily weights a conference championship, which is understandable. it's just so happens, though, that one of the teams under consideration this season doesn't play in a conference.538 has OK 3 OSU 4 ND 5. Which would be amazing.
