The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL)

Also sorry to see TBDBITL lose their leader, especially with the new, innovative things going on. Believe the band got more tweets/press than the football team did. Any sport has it's bad moments. Urb said that most of the OL came late to his first meeting, so they had a week of 5:00am workouts. Hazing? Probably. Necessary to 'get their attention' absolutely. Part of the discipline process. Swearing at a player/band member? I'd bet vcash it's not the first time on ANY campus that happened. Suspect that had more to do with girls marching in their underwear around the males that did him in. Oh yeah, when I marched in high school, if we missed a turn, or got out of step, we had to polish tubas and run from the stadium to the bridge and back with our instruments (at Whetstone HS). But it's what you have to do if you want to do it. and Mili's friend's wife (did I get that right?) was correct. Suck it up. Go Bucks!

I mean, yeah OK, to an extent, but there's a big difference between the situations here. Like I said before, I can see both sides of this one, but the band director making people polish tubas for missing assignments is waaay different than him calling a female "Jewoobs", or whichever one(s) he used. I think some people (not necissarily you) are minimizing this because they are Ohio State people...if this was Alabama's band or Michigan's band I think the response might be a bit different.

The Board and President just don't want Gloria Allred and her ilk making a Media circus of this so they sacrificed Waters to the PC and Feminazi Group...a pound of flesh ..etc
Not so much to the PC crowd as to the helicopter-parent crowd.

The sorriest part of this whole affair is the continuing involvement of parents in the minutiae of their college-age children's lives. The child of the parent who whined about this whole business is going to suffer the consequences of that inability to let go, for the remainder of her/his life.

As for the firing of Waters, I'm of two minds. On one hand, it seems pretty picayune stuff that happened in TBDBITL, but on the other hand he sure seems to have exercised poor judgment, knowing what a pussified society we now live in.

This had been going on long before Waters..I was in school when women first were allowed in the Band..they had to be tuff and thick skinned to stick it out then. Waters should have distanced himself from this and learned from our politicians on how to not take responsibiltiy for what you are responsible for...

Had he not participated (as has been alleged) in the stuff, he would probably still be employed, in my IMO.

I think a lot of this is a million attaboys can be erased by an "oh shit"...and in this case the 'oh shit' was too much to overcome to keep his job.

And I agree 100% about the helicopter parent thing - just wait until more of the millennials start having kids, it will be much much worse.

Anyone who joins a college band to walk in a straight line and play a horn didn't join the marching band for the right reasons.

Joining a college marching band to play music and walk in a straight line is on the same level as smoking Pot with Clinton... If you don't inhale, you did it the fuck wrong.
