OK, if Gene Smith actually realizes his school has a baseball program, there has to be a coaching change made, right? Thanks to Coach Beals for the good moments that happened in his tenure, but new blood is desperately needed in this program now. To have barely even sniffed a regular season Big Ten title in 12 years is just not where this program needs to be. Not to mention a grand total of 2 NCAA tournament wins, never making a regional final. This season is just the cherry on top. Please wake up Gene, and realize your university plays more than football.

We should compete for B1G titles, but we're never going to be nationally relevant. We're not luring kids from the South and West to come to Ohio, and Ohio doesn't produce anywhere near the talent to form the foundation of a top 15 program, and any elite kids it does produce are headed South or West. As far as the B1G goes, golf and baseball are dead sports. It's great that we snagged NC's in each while it was still possible to compete, but those days are over.

Most of the elite players from Ohio go pro. They get drafted and usually go for it out if high school within the top 10 rounds if I recall but it's been awhile. Just put together a team of smart baseball players who want to win more than anything else and go from there. Facilities upgrade probably should wait until we find out of the new guy has a clue or not. Just my worthless .02

Most elite players from EVERY STATE get drafted and go pro. This is not new. And, again, no one is "CWS Chapionship or bust" (although that should be the goal). OSU needs to be the best program in Ohio and complete in the B1G. I'm not expecting them to compete with the LSUs, Texas', USCs etc. But complete with Northwestern, Minny and dUMb? Hell fucking yes.

Thank goodness Gene did the right thing. Very interested to see what route they go with the new coach. Will they try to pry Stricklin away from Georgia? Georgia is probably about ready to move on from him anyways, especially if they have another quick out in the tournament this year. Tracy Smith? He has proven he can win in the Midwest (with Ohio kids no less, one in particular stands out). I would love to see them get someone with Ohio State ties but I'm not aware of who that could be, maybe I'm missing someone...
