Bought Golfshot mainly because of the recommendations here. I think it worked nicely...definitely worth the $30 given that it is not a reoccurring fee and I basically have a golf GPS for 1/10th the price of buying something at Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy.

Played yesterday the home track. Went 48-39. Started triple-double. Got hot around 12 to salvage an otherwise dismal round.

How busy and elitist is cumberland trails for a novice?

i played this course a number of years ago. it's nice but definitely not elitist. if i remember correctly, the course is bisected by a road. you can buy alcohol from the cart girl on one side of the road but not the other.

Played in one this weekend and couldn't do anything after about 9 holes. Usually takes me a week or two to back in the groove after playing in them.

Every stinking time. I am long (that's what she said) and it is 18 holes of grip and rip. Fucks me up for about a month.

I used to play in scrambles alot when I worked at the Bank. Haven't dont it in a while.

Got out for the first time yesterday and played 9 holes with my daughter. I laced the first drive right down the middle. That was about the highlight for the rest of the round. By 7, I was having spasms in my back and could barely walk let alone swing. So much for that off season strength and conditioning program.....

Still felt good to get on the course though....

I'm finally starting to get back into golf, after taking a long break when i was at college. My senior year of high school i was shooting in the low to mid 40s on 9 and mid 90s on 18. I'm just now starting to get my swing back and playing a lot. Since i now have the time and money to play golf i was wondering what you guys thought were some of the best (public) courses in the Columbus area. I live in New Albany and getting bored with the same few courses. I play airport for our work golf league and go to Willow Run and Racoon a lot just because they are never that busy, and good courses.

What are some of your guys' favorite courses to play in Columbus/central Ohio area?

Racoon? Just go further east and play Granville.
Also Johnstown has a few nice tracks namely The Links at Echo Springs and Clover Valley.

Yea, Raccoon might be the worst 18 hole course in central Ohio. It's right there with Blue's Creek. I agree with Buh Nim, there are some great courses out in that area. I'd add Kyber Run (not a great course, but way better than Raccoon and doesn't get a lot of play). TTartan East (or whatever the name is now) is also a solid track when it's not too wet. You can find deals on getting tee times on the net too.

One thing. Our fourth had to drop out of the Spielman Scramble at the last minute.

We are looking for someone to take his place. Its at Wedgewood on Mon 6/13.

pm me for details, but it is a great outing for a great cause and you get a chance to beat Spiels at something athletic. What's not to love.

After recovering from a total knee replacement, just starting to get my game (what there is of it) back. Back in the mid 80's on home course, and will be going to Monterey this week end. Will play one of the Ford Ord courses (Bayonet), which was used for the Q school. Last time I played, the stimpmeter was too high, and could never figure out the breaks. Guess I'm setting myself up for failure, but just happy to play. Playing partner is a teaching pro friend, and always have a good time. Price is $49, including cart and range balls. Got a tune-up from the pro, so am going in with a higher handicap, and hopefully a better game than that.

For any of your 'west-coasters' who travel to Golf's Mecca, take a look at both Bayonet and Black Horse. Both were used for Q school, and the military built some great tracks. Now public, and a great price for the test. For a NorCal Golf Assn member, Poppy Hill is only about $55 (which is used for the AT&T), and quite a bargain. Course some of you big hitters like 14&Oh, can afford the $500 to play Pebble and the $350 to play Spyglass (my personal fave). Spanish Bay is also in that $300 range, but wife and I have an understanding that what I spend on golf she can spend shopping....ouch....such is the price of golf...

Playing my first round of the year tomorrow with my dad and the group of guys that play early Saturday mornings. Should be a lot of fun, and I hope I don't play too bad. We're playing for money so I hope I don't embarrass myself although last time I played with them, we won money.
