Hey fourteenandoh! What's the big deal? Don't you try to do that everytime you tee it up? Sure, but it rarely happens. It's a great feeling, and here's hoping it takes less than 19 years for the next one!

When I got my first, was asked how many I had made. Actually said, "counting this one?" yep, said "one". That's me being a smart [Mark May].

Great job, and I'll bet you a nickel that next time you get on that teebox, you plan on hitting it either in or stiff.......Congrats....

Lucky bastard.

Anyone have any suggestion on the best iPhone golf GPS apps? I've bene told you get what you pay for, which is fine...I will shell out for Golfshot: Golf GPS or ViewTI Golf GPS if need be. I also was looking at Executive Caddy: Golf GPS Pro ($20) and GolfLink Game Tracker and GPS ($10).

I have Golfshot on my iphone. I use it every round I play. Have had it for a couple years now. I think I paid 29.99, one time fee. Never ran into a issue of it not having the course, it even had the course I played in Punta Cana, DR. Great app, I also like compiling all my statistics.

Do any of you routinely check your loft and lie? When I got fitted for my new shafts a month or so ago, I was surprised to hear my lofts are very weak. At least they are weak in terms of what you buy off the rack now. My PW is only 48* all the way up to my 3i which is 22*. I am having them bent a degree stronger. Most PWs you buy on the rack are about 44-45*. What about lie? I honestly have no clue what the lie angle is on each club. I know what standard was back when I bought them, however they are likely to bend and change. Especially being forged and the fact I live in Chicago and hit off mats during the winter. I am having those measured while the loft gets changed this week.

So I repeat my question, how many of you check your loft and lie routinely?

before each season. if you play regularly, the lofts and lies on some of the clubs will absolutely be off by at least a degree. it's not uncommon to have, say, a 7- and 8-iron with almost the same loft.

if you've never had irons fitted, then run to have it done. it would be coincidental if you weren't consistently having the heel or the toe grounding first, which a fitted lie would help correct.

Thump was having some distance control issues a year or two back, and it turned out his loft on his wedge (or maybe 9 iron?) was way off. Once it got set back to where it should have been, the distance gap was corrected.

Its definitely a big deal.

Correct.

My PW had the loft angle of a 9 iron.

Ended up buying a set of Mizuno MP-52's and could not be happier.

Got them professionally fitted,

The fitter added length to the shafts, (I'm 6'3) and also put 4 wraps of tape under each grip to build up the grips since I have larger hands than the normal person.

The X22's are off the market.

Dodged the raindrops yesterday and hit a large bucket. Pured 98% of the shots I hit. Just smokin every club in the bag.

Still having an issue swinging outside in. Causes me to either have a weak fade or straight pull. But if I concentrate on bringing it low and inside from takeaway it goes pretty good.

The X22's are nice, but they still don't have that sweet feel of a blade coming off the face.

Mizuno has a demo day coming up. Might wander on down and hit some of their stuff.

I'll second Golfshot. I played rounds in eight different states last year and it had every course I played. Full-featured, no recurring subscription charge and good battery-saving features.

Ambidextrous Golfer

A group of guys lived for their Saturday morning round of golf. One got transferred to another city. It wasn't the same without him.

A new woman joined their Club. She overheard the guys talking about their golf round.. She said, "You know, I used to play on my golf team in college and I was pretty good. Would you mind if I joined you next week?"

The three guys looked at each other. Not one of them wanted to say 'yes', but she had them on the spot. Finally, one man said it would be okay, but they would be starting early -- at 6:30 a.m. He figured the early tee-time would discourage her.

The woman said this may be a problem, and asked if she could be up to 15 minutes late. They rolled their eyes, but said okay. She smiled and said, "Good, I'll be there at 6:30 or 6:45."

She showed up at 6:30 sharp, and, playing right-handed, beat all three of them with an eye-opening two-under-par round. She was fun and a pleasant person, and the guys were impressed. Back at the clubhouse, they congratulated her and invited her back the next week. She smiled, and said, "I'll be there at 6:30 or 6:45."

The next week she again showed up at 6:30 sharp. Only this time, she played left-handed. The three guys were incredulous as she still beat them with an even par round, despite playing with her off-hand.

They were totally amazed. They couldn't figure her out. She was again very pleasant and didn't seem to be purposely showing them up. They invited her back again, but each man harbored a burning desire to beat her.

The third week, the guys had their game faces on. But this time, she was 15 minutes late, which made the guys irritable. This week the lady again played right-handed, and narrowly beat all three of them. The men mused that her late arrival was due to petty gamesmanship on her part. However, she was so gracious and so complimentary of their strong play, they couldn't hold a grudge.

Back in the clubhouse, all three guys were shaking their heads. This woman was a riddle no one could figure out. They had a couple of beers, and finally, one of the men asked her point blank, "How do you decide if you're going to golf right-handed or left-handed?"

The lady blushed, and grinned. "That's easy," she said. "When my Dad taught me to play golf, I learned I was ambidextrous. I like to switch back and forth. When I got married after college, I discovered my husband always sleeps in the nude. From then on, I developed a silly habit. Right before I left in the morning for golf practice, I would pull the covers off him. If his you-know-what was pointing to the right, I golfed right-handed; if it was pointed to the left, I golfed left-handed."

The guys thought this was hysterical. Astonished at this bizarre information, one of the guys shot back, "But what if it's pointing straight up?"

She said, "Then, I'm fifteen minutes late."

I'm finally starting to get back into golf, after taking a long break when i was at college. My senior year of high school i was shooting in the low to mid 40s on 9 and mid 90s on 18. I'm just now starting to get my swing back and playing a lot. Since i now have the time and money to play golf i was wondering what you guys thought were some of the best (public) courses in the Columbus area. I live in New Albany and getting bored with the same few courses. I play airport for our work golf league and go to Willow Run and Racoon a lot just because they are never that busy, and good courses.

What are some of your guys' favorite courses to play in Columbus/central Ohio area?

If you are in N.A. you have to play East. It's the old Winding Hollow CC. That course is rough around the edges b/c they have budget problems, but it is a great layout, and it will still be in better shape than Airport. I also highly recommend Tablerock. I can't say enough good things about that place. It is very reasonable, very challenging, and for what you pay it is in good shape. This course is not going to win any awards for being top notch, but it really is one of the best values in town. Finally, if you aren't averse to driving down to Grove City, I would put Players Club at Foxfire (thanks Thump) and Cooks Creek on your list. Cook's flooded this spring b/c it's on the banks of the Scioto so I don't know what kind of shape it will be in.

If you can get to those 4 courses this summer, you will have hit up some quality courses, and you won't be disappointed.

Greens Fees (est.)
East 40
Tablerock 30
Players Club 50
Cooks 70

Cumberland Trail in Pataskala,(Best rolling greens in the Columbus area in my opinion)

The Players Club at Foxfire (Lockbourne/Grove City)

Cook's Creek (Asheville)

Longaberger (Hanover/ East of Newark)

Also, try these two links for DEEPLY discounted rounds at each of these courses:

http://www.golfnow.com/columbus/tee...-columbus/search/?fdt=6/30/2010&tdt=6/30/2010

I've played the Players Club at Foxfire for $18.40 when it's normally $45 and played Cook's Creek for $20 when it's normally mid $40's as well.
