On the recomendation of Thump, I played at Foxfire Players Club last week. That course is pretty solid. The middle holes are a bit boring, but it starts well and the finish is very memorable. I shot 74, after shooting 40 on the front nine. Somehow I managed to take a triple bogey on the third hold which is a 350 yard par 4. It is in very good shape right now, the prices are very reasonable, and we were literally the only people on the entire course.

I also played Country Club of the North a few weeks ago down in Dayton. I used to play there in college, and it is in the best shape I've ever seen. It was so pure. I think it is the best course I've played this year.

Nice freaking round!

You can play that course for $18.00 if you go through Golfnow.com and time it right.

What did you think of the tight 3 hole stretch of 14, 15, & 16?

I liked them a lot. I missed a 10 footer for birdie on 11, then birdied 12, 13 and 14. I missed two 20 footers on 15 and 16 each. I striped my drive on 14, and hit five wood up to edge of the green on the left (the pin was on the far right side behind the green). The tee shots on 15 and 16 scared me so much I hit 3-wood. The approach shot into 16 is a very intimidating shot as well.

I actually booked on golfnow.com but we paid 35 plus the 2 dollar fee. I get there and find out that regular fees are 37 so I did all that crap on golfnow for no reason!

Who says golf doesn't have its own version of the walk off home run? This was on the 4th playoff hole yesterday as it was almost dark, that is why Byrd doesn't react right away. He could barely see the green.

I assume the other golfers gave a go at it, but, man that would kind of mess with your concentration.

I haven't done this in a couple of years, but this year I intend to play in the Spielman Scramble.

Well run outing. Not cheap, but it's a great cause.

I currently have three golfers and am looking for a fourth.

Details....
Medallion CC in Hilliard.
Mon June 13. There is an am and a pm shotgun start.
Outback will cater.
Pretty decent swag. When I played the outing 3 years ago swag included a case of pro v-1s, choice of footjoy sandals, a titleist wedge or a golf shirt, and some other stuff.

First year you could win a hyundai with a hole in one on one of the par threes. Last year it was a Ferrari.

Last year I played you could challenge Spielman on one of the par threes (closest to the pin) and some other nice stuff.

The 4 man shotgun took just over 4 hrs 15 minutes. Really not bad for that type of event.

Cost is 175 per golfer. pm if interested. Again, its a good time and a great cause.

i finally pulled the trigger and bought a new set of irons. after playing titleist dci 962s for 15 years, i picked up a set of titleist 710CB forged irons. they are smaller than the 962's, have better feel, less offset in the long irons and more penetrating ball flight, and they are more forgiving! gotta love technology. 10 years ago you had to go to a blade with the sweetspot the size of a dime to play forged irons.

the rain this year is absolutely killing me! all i want to do is play on the weekends, but the courses are damn near unplayable. even if you can get out, the rough is like a damn US Open. i almost threw my back out and almost broke my wrist all in the same round last weekend trying to hit out of what seemed like 12 inch rough (probably closer to 7 or 8 though).

Golf is Crazy or is it me?

Ok play in a league. Before my car accident I was a 4 handicap. Not bad golfer but not a really good one either.

Fast forward years to now...

So I am playing a short par 5. The snowman (8) finds a way to my score card and believe it or not, it was a very good score for the shots I hit. I two putted the hole if thats any indication. Out of bounds and some trees got in the way of my errant shots. The girl in the cart with the beers and refreshments asks me, "have you ever played before?"

So I am frustrated. Long par 4 (number 1 handicap) is next on my agenda. I decide since it is going bad and bogey golf isnt that bad is it? So I pull out my 3 wood to tee off. Hit a nice 3 wood to the middle of the fairway but I am 40 yards or so behind my group's tee shots. I have just over 200 yards to the green. I grab my Supernova 7 wood. My plan is to try and get there, close to the green and maybe scramble for a bogey or better. I hit the 7 wood-which by the way is my hybrid substitute and I can't hit a 3 iron well anymore. Hit it to the right of the green off a hill and it rolls towards the pin. Damn, I say maybe a par is not too much to imagine. It rolls closer. My partners start yelling and say get in the hole.
Now I still have double vision from the car accident so I think they are messing with me. They start yelling it went in. I say to them hey you dumb (expletive deleted) stop.

I dont believe them and think it rolled off into a trap. But they keep saying it's in the hole.

End result-Eagle the par 4.

Now snowman (8) to a 2 in the space of two holes. Needless to say we all got a few refreshments from the beer girl and I said, "Yes I have played before."

Golf is a crazy mistress or maybe I am just a crazy hacker now!

Nothing like hitting a forged blade in the sweet spot....I don't play them anymore, but I have a set of Hogan Apex Blades from the 70's that I still hang onto (wife doesn't get why). Played them in HS and College. When you hit it good you knew it...when you missed it you knew it... Hard to tell sometimes with the newer irons.

Haven't been out yet due to the splish splash...maybe this weekend...enjoy the new clubs...

I hate to admit it but, I've only had 2 eagles in my life. The first was a driver, three wood, and one put on a short par 5. The second was almost to the stroke the same as yours.

Ellesworth Meadows in Hudson, started the round by hitting 7 ground balls and 2 putting a par 5. The 315 yard par 4 second, I hit another ground ball off the tee, and then hit a picture perfect 4 iron on the green that rolled in the hole. After 2 holes, I was exactly 2 over, playing the worst golf of my life.

EDIT: Later that Sunday morning, yes I did go to church.

Damn....I have played 8 rounds already this year. However 2 of them were in Scottsdale. Shot 79 on Tuesday for the first round below 80 this year. I shot 43-36, with a birdie on 18. I also tripled one of the par 3s...I was a wreck on the front.
