This entire season, I decided that I would simply listen to the games on 97.1 the fan.
In many ways this helped me to be a little bit detached from the games so that I could enjoy them from afar, but still feel connected. It actually brought a fair amount of nostalgia back to the game of OSU football for me.
My mindset has been muted this afternoon since the final interception. I've read a little bit of BP, 11Warriors, and watched some Zach Smith (ironically enough). I thought I was disappointed, saddened, irritated, and the like. Then I just saw a snippet on 11W that said this is the longest Buckeye losing streak in 26 years. I mean, sure, I could've added the shit up and come to the same conclusion, but seeing it written punched me right in the gut.
Goddammit. The Buckeyes shouldn't have lost to these fucks today, and there sure as shit shouldn't be players moving on in their collegiate careers that don't have a pair of gold pants. So fkn disappointing.

I think expecting perfection out of all hires is a pretty unrealistic viewpoint - are we really going to use Day's DC hire in 2020 still against him? He showed the ability to right his wrongs with the Knowles pick and then some. All coaches make hiring mistakes, hell Saban still does that routinely. I am fine with showing Parker the door, and expect that to be what happens, but let's not act like this doesn't happen at every other spot not called Utah.

I agree. Not every coach is a fit. Bill Davis had a resume that would make you think he could be a great hire and he was the drizzling shits. Maybe the worst assistant other than Fleming I’ve seen at OSU. But you can see on paper why that decision might have been made.

Coombs had no DC experience and was brought in because he was a friend that everyone liked. Even if you give the benefit of the doubt to him, it was clear after 2020 he wasn’t the answer, so demoting him a couple weeks into 2021 isn’t really a decision that a coach should be getting credit for.

If you think you can live with Cooper as a floor then your standards are too low. It was brutal and I for one, would do anything to avoid even starting down that path ever again.

This is the false dichotomy. There are likely many coaches who could meet the team goals and there are not just two options. Also, as others have pointed out, with the expansion of the playoffs yeah I much rather lose to Iowa and then be ass kickers by end of November and roll UM, win the B1G, and compete in the playoffs. Losing to UM should never be acceptable here.

Risk vs Reward. There is always risk in change. The potential rewards of beating UM, winning B1G, and winning national titles must be weighed against the risk of continuing with coaches who haven't met these objectives. Just the same as the rewards of winning 95% of your games must be weighed against the risk of not beating UM or winning B1G/competing for a national title.

Everyone will have their own opinions and world views.

It certainly is not gone. What are you talking about? The NCAA isn't going to simply say Scum beat OSU, so we are good now. They have major issues coming. Lol.

The cheating gave scum a touchdown or two advantage. It was not the be all and end all.

Scum was simply a good team on its own. They had a good enough team to win, and did. Now they will get destroyed later, but now they beat OSU.

I appreciate your argument and stance - the major difference between us and Nebraska is they've had all their titles won by two coaches, back to back coaches. Our titles have been won by four separate coaches. Not many more successful programs than ours. I'm a homer, but I think we are a top 3 program of all time and don't see us going full retard with the next coaches.

I don't disagree. But that's kind of the point. Coop was the absolute WORST, and he's in the freaking CFB Hall of Fame ffs.

The lack of big game ability shown by Day is worrying but can these losses bring lessons, so he can improve ? I think that's a tougher question to answer.

We’ve gone back and forth all night but I feel like we’ve both approached with a fairly open mind for what it’s worth.

To knuck’s point, I think winning the Iowa/Purdue games and winning the Game are correlated and I give Day some leeway for his success outside of the Game. And the fact that other than a couple of games with questionable fairness, he has only been blown out once - to a team who had Tuf Borland on the same field as Devonte Smith. That is why I am willing to give him another year.

He’s faced a opening run of michigan teams that no other coach has. Maybe that’s because crayon eater is actually a good coach. Maybe its because he’s a cheating piece of shit. But on the field and on paper, I’ve never seen a run of years like this by them.

Most new coaches come in and win a NC with the last guys talent in the first two years.

Day failed to do that miserably.

Could someone else come in and win with Day's talent?
