THE GAME, tOSU at tCun, Sat. 11/25, 12pm ET, FOX

I guess it will be generational.

Gold Pants are won. NC's are arbitrary media tournament things that are given.

Give me the former any given year and I couldn't care less about the latter. I don't care what Rece Davis or anyone at ESPN thinks about us.

2018 was the last great year. This is misery.
Seems like 2019 would be the last great year by that standard. And '21 and '22 would have also been a lot better by that standard, had scUM not cheated. CJ and Co. would have shredded their defense last year without Stallions. Maybe in '21 as well. As far as I am concerned, that leaves this year to legitimately complain about.

So, would the fire Day crowd be happy with Earl Bruce numbers? Sure he had a winning record against TTUN but his overall record wasn't great.. Found him way more frustrating than Coop (although i was pretty much off the grid for a chunk of Coop's tenure with just occasional newspaper updates so didn't "experience" it like a lot here). Just can't grasp the grass will be greener arguement.

None taken. I understand and respect that perspective. But beating your rival only goes so far, especially if it doesn’t lead to anything. For basically eternity beating Michigan was the end all be all. We hate them so much because for decades this was the defacto B10 championship game and they were the roadblock to our goals. Not so much after this year. Whether we like it or not, the rivalry doesn’t mean that much going forward. Whenever we both have good teams (like now), we could end up playing at least twice a year.

2018 was actually the last great year as far as I am concerned. Beat our rival, wrecked their season and went out and had a great time at the Rose Bowl. It will never be that again but luckily I got to go to both games and told my son to soak it in because very likely we’d never see it like that again.

Now, if Day wins something i might have to reconsider the new normal but he’s all hot air and no substance to me at this point. The popcorn coach.

I won’t even play the woulda, coulda shoulda about NCAA sanctions that haven’t been handed down yet.

It means a ton to our real fanbase. Gun to my head, would I rather beat ttun or win a national title? I would rather beat ttun if that is the scenario. I don't want a coach that can't win The Game, plain and simple.

The actual scenario though is that if we don't beat ttun, then we don't make the playoffs and play in a bowl game we don't care about. Which is exactly what just happened. I don't really disagree with most of your post, but this game matters and always will. This loss is the end of Day's tenure imo.

I am so damn hungover. If there's one thing I've learned in my last 11 years of film breakdown, watching football full speed, while drinking, from broadcast view, means we tend to miss so much.
So while I'm going to sip this coffee and try to rise from the grave, I'm going to numb myself and rewatch yesterday. It's the only way to have the proper perspective needed when dishing out honest, but most importantly, an accurate critique of coaches and players.

Edit: Still hurting though. This one is going to sting for a long, long time.

Better man than me. I'm still in the "there was no game yesterday" stage.

I didn't know who should replace Cooper either I could tell he wasn't the guy.

We should have kept Cooper then by this silly ass logic.
Cooper lost to people other than Michigan all the time, including teams that had no business being on the field with us-we routinely had 3-4 loses a year. Losing to Michigan a lot was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Cooper. You can’t lose multiple games a year AND lose to Michigan. That’s a definite no no .

Again, Day definitely has his faults but the Cooper comparisons are just not accurate other than not being able to beat Michigan consistently.

I am okay with losing here and there to TSUN as that is how rivalries go. I lived through the Cooper years while physically living in Michigan and truly enjoyed the switch to Tressel and Meyer domination.

There are two additional reasons why I wish we would have won yesterday. First, because it was the final meeting before the big switch with divisions and expanded playoffs. I still am not sure how that will impact the rivalry, but it is a shift. Second, I doubt it would have happened, but now there is no way any punishment will come down on michigan before the CFP this year.

I only experienced one of the Earle Bruce years in my time following Ohio State. What was it like the other 4 years he beat Michigan? Was life grand back then? Was it OK to have a three game losing streak to the murders row of Stanford, FSU and Wisconsin? We might be unranked, but at least we beat Michigan. We might be 9-3, but at least we beat Michigan. That sounds like they were happy being Wisconsin winning the Paul Bunyan Axe every few years and being a mid level program.

Yes lol. I’m cool with losing to them if we win a NC/high win seasons. I really could care less. I realize people feel differently but I just want wins when it matters. I’m an OOS kid who came to OSU for the academic/athletic opportunity (much like the star players on our team), I’m not born and bred in the rivalry like many others, admittedly. Beating them is not a way of life for me even as I became a buckeye in ‘02 and grew accustomed to beating them every year. I knew eventually it would end. Don’t like 3x in a row, but if we can play for championships, it is what it is.
Thanks, McCord, appreciate your input

Again, I appreciate that perspective and as an OOS kid with midwestern roots, I know how much the “game” means to people from Ohio. But trying to separate “real” fans from fake is a slippery slope. No one is going to agree on that criteria. I will say this might be a generational/OOS thing tho. For the younger generations and people not living in the rivarly day in and out, this just isn’t the “grand finale” for us. We grew up beating Michigan consistently for almost two decades (pretty much took it for granted really) and have a bunch of gold pants and conference titles. But we only won the big one twice with over a decade between them. All through the 00s and 10s, we were the toast of the Midwest but never thought of as a true contender as the SEC teams were king and showed it on the field more times than not when we played them. Honestly (and not cuz I was on campus at the time), getting curb stomped by FL and LSU in consecutive yrs at the BCS championship, last years Georgia loss, and the 2019 game with Clemson hurt more than these past two Michigan losses for me.

Of course beating Michigan is important for regional/conference bragging rights (and our psyches) but if you listen to the OOS skill players who come here, they do so to 1) Get developed for the NFL and 2) play for championships. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember any of our OOS stars (especially the recent ones) saying they were coming here to beat Michigan. Once they get on campus/commit that changes, but let’s not act like that’s why they come here. They don’t come here unless there is stable program with a winning tradition. Day has maintained that despite his Michigan woes. I’m just not for canning him because he can’t win one game that decreases in value starting next year. With that same logic, Georgia would have canned Smart before the the 2019 season because he couldn’t beat Alabama or anyone with a pulse for his first 5 seasons even though he had a stellar record otherwise. I think we can all admit that would have been the wrong decision and I bet a lot of Georgia fans are very happy their AD didn’t listen to their calls for his firing.
