The Big Ten Is Irrelevant - Again

True. That said, Clemson has as many national titles since 1970 as TTUN. And Auburn has as many as we do since that same timespan. The shift in power is real- not a media creation.
I wouldn't call it a media creation - I would say it's media enhanced, however. Someone a page or two ago also mentioned that the SEC gets to play by its own recruiting rules (over-signinig in particular) and I'd say that has also had a large impact on the "power shift"

With regard to the media enhancement, one need look no further than ESPN's financial interests to understand it.

I don't think anybody is calling it a media creation, quite the opposite, actually. It's hard to argue with results. I think the complaint is the way the B1G is crucified, when other conference experienced similar eras of ineptitude with significantly less ridicule.

This is obvious, but you also didn't have multi-billion dollar networks paying employees to sit around and troll conferences.

Quite right. Oklahoma lost to USC 55-19. If you do the math, that's more than 41-14. Oklahoma lost to Boise St.... Oklahoma lost lots of Bowl games.... But..there's not a BigXII channel to compete with, right? So, what's to be gained by enhancing a "Big XII football SUCKS!" narrative if you're ESPN?

1) It's not as profitable to bag on OU as it is OSU, UM. PSU is debatable.

2) There's an argument to be made that ESPN nearly lost control of CFB when the B12 & ACC were on the verge of crumbling, and they overpaid severely (for the ACC & separately the LHN) to protect it. I think it's more about #1.

Well, you do have two very large,a nd passionate, alumni bases in OSU and scUM. What's more, and I don't have anything to back this up necessarily, those alumni end up nationwide rather than staying local. So... you get eyes and clicks from all over rather than just one particular region. I say that last part because I can't understand - if your first point is accurate (and I think it does have merit, for sure) - why they don't rip on Tejas and ND. On the other hand, maybe they do. I haven't paid much attention to the talking heads in years now.

Yep. Up until approximately 2011, OU was seemingly overrated every year when the season began. In fairness, losing Bradford in (I think) 2009 torpedoed that season before it began. But they never caught much grief for their failures.

There's also the fact (FAX) that while Free Shoes, Cryami and Bama were "proving" deep south dominance in their respective conferences, they didn't have a fucking blood fued every single year with an equal, such as tOSU v Tsun.

Wanna know why tOSU and TSUN didn't win NC's every year? Because two of the top five teams were in the same conf.

Ah, yes. My bad. Forgot about that. But yeah, even when OU was on a run of incredible big game failures, they weren't lampooned in the media on nearly the same level as B1G programs. Take away that win over bammer, and OU was arguably the biggest underachiever in the country...behind maybe only Texas.
Nor did Mark May call for Big Game Bob's head during the halftime show of some OU game after Rhett Bomar and J.D. Quinn got tagged for no show jobs.

Or, better yet, could you imagine the outrage if a B1G coach called out the SEC last summer ('13) like Stoops did? In fairness to Bob, he backed it up on the field in January, but prior to that his record was spotty at best.
