The Big Ten Is Irrelevant - Again

Standing in line in a supermarket today...

Steve19: Did you go to Minnesota or did a friend bring that shirt back?

College kid: No, I'm from Philly.nOne of my friends here is from Minnesota. You sound American.

Steve19: Yes, I went to Ohio State and am from Columbus.

College kid: Hate to hear that. I am going to Alabama.

Steve19: They had a great run but that's over now, no?

College kid: Yeah, I know....

So, there you have it. SEC kids are now wearing B1G gear. :)
Wait, there are supermarkets in Africa?

Who knew!

I don't mean it from a getting in perspective. From a fan's POV, I'd love to see to our talented team take on better teams than Hawaii, WM, Indiana, ect

Some is OOC scheduling, some is the conference bottom dwellers being [Mark May], and some is unlucky conference scheduling where we don't get to see Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, or even NW this year.
And no one in their right mind would have tried to secure Iowa or northwestern as schedule boosters heading into this year.

The reality is osu is finishing up a rough patch in their scheduling. This year and last are thanks to vt falling apart since they were scheduled. The few years before that were a rare lull in quality headliner opponents.

It's such a crap shoot. Miami and usc were on top of the world when they were scheduled. When the games rolled around they were very good, kind of good, mediocre and above average.

Conversely, Texas was the best ooc matchup in a decade and they were far from a powerhouse when they were scheduled. Heck they weren't even that good the year before traveling to Columbus and winning the National title.

Along those lines, tcu looks like a great match up on paper and that was far more than they bargained for when it was scheduled.

In the time frame since they were scheduled to play osu, oklahoma has gone from elite to suspect to good to suspect and might go back to being quite good again.

That is why I am saying they are being treated like a headline program, but aren't. Nobody with any common sense actually think they are a top program right now.

Evidenced by the fact that even with all the hoopla, they didn't sniff the top-25 and Vegas pegged them as dogs to (then unranked) Utah - demonstrating not only low expectations to go with their crap performance but also that even while the media was running their gums -- nobody was willing to put money on it.

Pretty funny we have endless threads and posts to deride the conference brethren but when they actually do suck and people talk about it, we come to their defense.

"You can't make fun of my mom, only I can make fun of my mom"

We have countless posts making fun of BXII and ACC too.. not as much with PAC for whatever reason (timezone?)
They're really not any better... it's a world of suck outside the top 15-20 programs.

I have no desire to defend the mediocrity of the B1G.... most of the Western division is junk. So is the entire ACC and all but 3 teams in the BXII.
How many years do we have to hear about UW making a comeback (like they were ever a dominant power for more than a few years)? It's almost as bad as scUM.

The Ohio State team is poised to become a"national phenomenon " this year. Just reading articles around the country..even me the eternal pessimist could see this teams charisma match something I never thought would see again the 85 Bears. We are right now in a conference of one BUT there is along way Togo .
