Urban started this in January of 2007.
He needs to end it now.
It's official – the Big Ten is irrelevant. Again.
Graham isn't doing that bad at ASU.... perhaps Stache sucked the life outta the program... but your right... neither program wanted to pony up to the big boys table...So, two of the supposed best jobs in the B1G opened up and have been filled. Nebraska and Wiscy both had chances to improve the quality of coaching in the conference...something that is widely viewed as our biggest issue. The results...more mediocrity. Corn hires a 61 year old with a career .538 win %. Bucky brings back their former OC who tallied a .500 record at a school that played in weak conferences. It should be noted Chryst's 19-19 record at Pitt was a downgrade from the Wannestache, and included a loss to FCS Youngstown State and MAC bottom-feeder Akron. Todd Graham went 6-6 in one season before bolting for Arizona State. Way to step up, guys.
Now, the only hope is scUM.
Regardless, Pitt has a decent Western PA recruiting base, and played in bad conferences (the scraps of the Big East and the ACC). Any decent coach should be able to do better than .500.Graham isn't doing that bad at ASU.... perhaps Stache sucked the life outta the program... but your right... neither program wanted to pony up to the big boys table...
Please don't mention "Penn State" and "Pain in the ass" in the same post again.I think Franklin at Penn St is the real deal. Considering the talent level and depth issues with the lack of scholarships, 6-6 this season was pretty remarkable -- and to think they pushed OSU to double OT, lost to UM by 5, Maryland by 1, and Illinois by 2. He finished off a Top 25 recruiting class last season despite the sanctions, and now has a Top 10 class without.
He's 42, a Pennsylvania guy that's not going anywhere, and very charismatic and energetic. I anticipate he's going to be a major pain in our ass for 15 years or more.

Now, I don't think either will be disastrous hires. Riley will likely keep corn plugging along at 8-10 wins a season. Chryst will allow Wiscy to continue to run the system they have perfected. I don't think either will be significant downgrades from the guys they replaced, but neither is the step up needed. It just keeps the status quo, which is not what the B1G needs.
Urban Meyer is the only elite coach in the conference. Dantonio is probably a wrung below that, and who knows what happens to Sparty when Narduzzi moves on. Is their success a result of Narduzzi's defenses, or is it more Dantonio's handy work? Take away the last two years, and Sparty was just a "good" program under Dantonio. scUM is the best hope to improve things. However, Harbaugh looks like a real longshot...at best. After him, the only elite name that seems like a semi-realistic option would be Bob Stoops. But I still don't buy him leaving Norman.
