The 2020 College Football Season

And when/if they don't?
It’s definitely a gamble. If COVID rates start spiking if football is played then those conferences are probably fucked. If not then the B1G looks fucking dumb. My bet though is of the conferences eventually coming to the same conclusion the B1G regardless of what they’re saying now.

What’s weird is having players sign waivers seems like the best option but apparently the NCAA has already said schools can’t have players sign waivers?

I don't think so - while the Pac-12 will follow the B1G, there's enough ambiguouity among the various conferences that I could absolutely see the Big 12, ACC and SEC going forward all the same. And if they do, the B1G is going to suffer.

And let's be clear here, when they say spring, they aren't talking April or May. They are talking right in the middle of cold/flu season in february/March. Spring is a non-starter also.
There’s also the opposite scenario though, where the other conferences go ahead, there is a big outbreak among a team or 4, seasons get fucked or canceled in the middle, and the conference gets sued by everyone. It’s hard to say how things will play out.

ACC & SEC will play regardless... not enough Academics among them to stand up the ADs and say this shouldn’t happen...

while it was stupid to call it this early without the other conferences on board it will hurt B1G football and other sports for years to come... yes that wont have a huge impact on the Uni and academics but it will have an impact on the Athletic Dept and all those 30+ other non rev scholarship sports are toast...

All it would take is 1 little COVID breakout and the awful PR & lawsuit shit storm would hit the fan for them. Are they really willing to take that risk? I guess we will see.

Longer term though - there won't be a vaccine that's widely available until next Summer or so. How can a recruit possibly expect to go to Ohio State without that being in place and will now need assurances that Coach Day or Gene can't give about the program actually seeing the field?

If those other conferences play, and I'd bet they will at this point, Ohio State and the B1G is simply fucked.

Then we can go through this - all of the players and coaches were pretty unanimous yesterday about wanting to move forward. They've had the rug pulled out from under them.

Only until the kids start suffering organ failure during games.

It might hurt the ACC and B12, but the SEC...have you been paying attention to how it's going down here? There might be blowback from the rest of the country, but they won't care down here for the most part and that's what matters to them. I fully expect the SEC to continue to push forward until they absolutely can't.
