Integrity. Can't be bought.
In time, Thad Matta will be viewed as one of the best coaches in B1G college basketball history. This move is not unexpected but we should all remember that he not only achieved on the court, but his players also achieved off of it. He ran a clean program and will be fondly remembred for bringing back the lustre to Ohio Stste basketball. God bless and thank you coach!

Wow Thad Matta to Ole Miss? That doesn't feel right

as jardy tweeted, matta's buyout stipulates that he must be actively looking for a job. my guess is he'll be "looking" for a job for at least 2 of his 3 buyout years. hard to pass up unemployment paying out about $3m per year. but when he does take a head coaching job, which i fully expect, i hope it's not a program like ole miss. i like matta and will root for his success, but i'd rather he be at a place like vandy, wake, marquette, or providence.

Reports: No Ole Miss for Matta, Pitt a possibility

Other candidates mentioned for the Panthers are Danny Hurley and Tom Crean, among others, but Matta has ties to current Pitt athletic director, Heather Lyke, adding more intrigue to the situation. Lyke, hired by the school a year ago from Eastern Michigan, was at Ohio State for 15 years as associate athletic director (until 2013), where she worked with Matta while he was in charge of the Buckeyes.

If memory serves, Lyke's background is in compliance, so she may be pretty eager to take on Matta and avoid the compliance headaches that other coaches are more likely to bring.

Pitt/Matta would be an interesting match. Couple of things, Re: the Pitt job, though...

- The big question will be his health, and if the (roughly) one year off re-charged him, because Pitt is a ground-up rebuild. Stallings burnt that program to the ground.
- Pitt isn't as attractive a job, IMO, since they left the Big East. They built a lot of their success under Howland & Dixon by recruiting NYC and the Northeast. They lost that footprint when they moved to the ACC.
- Will Matta be able to leverage his tOSU recruiting connections? I can't see Pitt competing with tOSU/Sparty/scum/IU and Kentucky for Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana kids. Not to get the kind of kids he'd need to compete in the ACC.
- Is he up for the grind of another big program/conference job? I always thought if Matta came back, it'd be at a smaller job. Pitt isn't a blue blood, but there are heavy expectations for that basketball program now. Plus, if he's gonna try to bang it out in the ACC, he's gonna have to dive into the AAU recruiting circles that I think contributed to his burn-out at tOSU. Again, why I always thought a mid-major would be where he'd turn back up.
