THAD MATTA, BUTLER

Matta's return to Butler will be one of the best stories in college basketball. But this isn't just a guy who is coming back for a victory lap at his alma mater. Matta wants to win big at Butler, and he's made some keen offseason moves. The Bulldogs had a strong core of returners like Chuck Harris, Jayden Taylor and Simas Lukosius, but Matta landed four important transfers. Purdue's Eric Hunter Jr., Akron's Ali Ali, Georgia State's Jalen Thomas and NC State's Manny Bates should all have big opportunities right away for a Butler team that hopes to make a big jump in the tough Big East.

Miss me yet?
A lot of people are quick to romanticize Thad while forgetting how bad things were getting at the end. Was he ever as bad as Holtmann is this year? No, but the program was on the wrong trajectory when he ”stepped down.”

And I don’t mean that as a knock on Matta; he’s the best coach in program history, but his back ailments really sapped him of the vigor that made him and his teams great those last couple of years.

Yeah a healthy Thad Matta I'd love to have. The not healthy wore out version. Nah
