I believe Matta’s last contract and monthly buyout payments expired in June of this year, so that “job search” requirement has expired too.

I read this as Thad being there to coach the coach, keep them compliant and be the recruiting "GM". Basically set up a program and let the coach, coach.

Seems like a damn smart use of the talents of a guy like Thad while minimizing his weaknesses (health).

This is such a damn good fit for him.

Gets his great basketball mind back in the game without the day-to-day coaching grind.

You’re essentially hiring him to show Woodson the ropes of running a college program- managing things that he probably didn’t need to in the NBA. IU was intrigued by the TTUN model of Juwan Howard (NBA) who got paired with Phil Martelli (30+ years college experience).

Not to mention you have a very well-respected name connecting you to high schools/coaches/recruits- especially in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. And he’s done it the right way. People love Thad.

I hate how perfect this is for him.

(Woodson still has to coach and recruit though and those returns are “average” and “unknown” so far)
