In fairness to whoever said that about Matta, it's safe to assume that everything involved with the basketball program is dying.

Thad Matta Reveals Nasty Negative Recruiting Claim
The Ohio State head coach revealed a nasty negative recruiting claim this afternoon.
Thad Matta will be back at Ohio State in 2017-18. The Buckeyes struggled this year and Matta has dealt with some health issues in the past, but he’ll be on the sideline next year, Yahoo’s Pat Forde reported on Monday night.
At a press conference this afternoon, Matta addressed the report, saying he feels fine physically, but added that someone negatively recruited against him by claiming he was dying. Seriously.

Thad Matta said someone negatively recruited against him by saying that Thad was dying. #Buckeyes

Negative recruiting is unfortunately a part of the college basketball and college football worlds – why would you go there when this is happening? you know this school does this, right? etc. – but claiming another head coach is dying is obviously crossing the line.
Ohio State opens its postseason play on Wednesday night against Rutgers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Washington, D.C. The Buckeyes need a tournament title to make the NCAA Tournament.

Meh. Not sure I believe that. Did "negative recruiting" cause all but one of the 2015 class to bail after one season?
It just reeks of a desperate coach. My expectations for 2017-18 are sufficiently tempered, but damn Thad had some good teams years ago. Let's just be glad we had them, and maybe we can crack the top ten - in our conference - next season.![]()
Taken from another board: "The way Coach Matta describes the situation, it sounds an awful lot like Kobi Simmons when he delayed his announcement and we had been the front runner. At the time, Kentucky was our main competition. He eventually went to Arizona to play for Sean Miller, who probably didn't say that. So that leaves... Calipari?"
I just don't think Calipari would have to do that. The logic might suggest that but Capilari just has to say "Kentucky." If he is losing a guy to Ohio State, that guy probably isn't Kentucky worthy, because let's face it, Ohio State isn't getting kids that Kentucky wants. Or Duke. Or Kansas. Or North Carolina. Or UCLA. Or UT Arlington...
Evidently you know nothing of how UK and Cal work. Calipari does not just have to say "Kentucky"I just don't think Calipari would have to do that. He says "just sign the back and take it to that bank over there"
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...n-ohio-state-mens-basketball-coach-thad-mattaTo Gene Smith, Thad Matta remains the right man to lead the Ohio State men's basketball team.
Ohio State's Vice President and Director of Athletics released a statement to the media on Wednesday afternoon in support of Matta, citing a recent conversation between the two men about the status of the program.
Matta could be in the market for yet another assistant ....
And Alabama football doesn't have to pay kids.....but we all know every big time school does. I don't like this kind of reasoning. Cal is precisely the guy that would say something like that.I just don't think Calipari would have to do that. The logic might suggest that but Capilari just has to say "Kentucky."
