Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

There is a correlation to those four years and I don't like putting blame so much on players, but then again they are the ones wearing the uniforms. That correlation is the recruitment of one of the better players in Ohio that got recruited to Ohio State, to everyone's joy and jubilation - mine included. Then said player shows a glimpse of what could be, although it was as a role player surrounded by other guys that could play and take the heat off. When said heat was firmly applied the following years, this player melted.

Thad Matta is extremely loyal and thats probably to a fault. When your bell cow sets a bad example of how to act and how to play, that is cancerous. I remember the quotes he said after that Florida game but I personally saw the wrong guys leaving. It seemed to me, from limited vision obviously, that the ones leaving showed the most energy on the floor during games. Now, they could have been awful the rest of the time because I have no knowledge of that. What I do know from playing on several levels of multiple sports is that if you have dissention anywhere in the ranks, the team is doomed. Thad can scream until he's red in the face and often does but it will do no good.

I personally think that AAU basketball has caused a serious decline in the game. The fundamentals dont even register on most of these kids' radar anymore and thats exactly the point that this team is lacking and losing on a nightly basis. Thad has to make changes and I dont know if its in his nature to do so. I dont want to see him ridden out like coach Bruce but I dont want to watch another OSU basketball game where guys stand around and dont pour their hearts out for a coach and university that deserves better. Put the bench players in and sit all 5 starters. Whatever it takes. My .02

Does anyone really think we are gonna be in the tournament next year? We need a change now and I'm a Matta fan. Maybe if Thompson, Lyle, and KBD all stay and continue to get better we might squeak into the tournament, but I'm thinking at least one of them will leave.

I'm looking forward to seeing Kaleb Wesson bang around inside next year, even if that's all he can do as a freshman.

Thad Matta Reveals Nasty Negative Recruiting Claim
The Ohio State head coach revealed a nasty negative recruiting claim this afternoon.

Thad Matta will be back at Ohio State in 2017-18. The Buckeyes struggled this year and Matta has dealt with some health issues in the past, but he’ll be on the sideline next year, Yahoo’s Pat Forde reported on Monday night.

At a press conference this afternoon, Matta addressed the report, saying he feels fine physically, but added that someone negatively recruited against him by claiming he was dying. Seriously.

Thad Matta said someone negatively recruited against him by saying that Thad was dying. #Buckeyes

Negative recruiting is unfortunately a part of the college basketball and college football worlds – why would you go there when this is happening? you know this school does this, right? etc. – but claiming another head coach is dying is obviously crossing the line.

Ohio State opens its postseason play on Wednesday night against Rutgers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Washington, D.C. The Buckeyes need a tournament title to make the NCAA Tournament.

In fairness, when watching OSU play, it often felt like watching an added scene from "Weekend at Bernie's".

Coulda just been an honest mistake....
