Yup. I've said it before, but at the very least Matta needs to completely clean house as far as his assistants go. Much of the decline can be traced back to when guys like Paulus and Dickerson were hired. That's pretty much the only way Thad gets several more years if I were Gene.

I agree with you from the standpoint of the assistant coaches shoulder a lot of the load in recruiting, and these guys stink at identifying talent. I would fire any assistant who's been on the staff longer than a year. The recruiting classes that have been coming lately have been horrible - not good fits and also not very good talent. It all started when they had that 2011 class and made the horrible decision of replacing Sully with Amir Williams and Trey McDonald, plus jumping early after Shannon Scott which was also a poor decision not just because of Trey Burke but also they basically ignored every other PG in the class in favor of landing a guard who wasn't a 3-point shooter.

I expect Thad to get at least one more year, and I think they will probably have a better year next season which will likely get him another year on top of that. But if he doesn't get more of his recruits to pan out soon, he's probably not going to stick around more than 2 more seasons. Whoever Thad has been listening to for advice on which players to recruit is leading him down a path to failure.

I never thought I'd see a Matta- coached team that played with so little passion and effort on defense. It has become worse and worse. The Craft-era seems so long ago now. The first half today was an embarrassment.
