Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

This is so true.

I'm tired people who talk about how great of a coach Dan Mullen is because he got Miss State #1 for a few weeks because he beat 3 teams that were ranked in the top 10-15 in a row at the time when he played them.
(I imagine none of you or your fellow fans of B1G programs talk about that anymore, but among SEC fan circles it still comes up from time to time). All 3 of those teams (LSU, Auburn, and Aggy) finished 8-5 that year.

So basically he beat a bunch of 8-5 teams in late September/early October while they were still unbeaten or had 1 loss, and got over ranked because it seemed impressive at the time.
Early season rankings help the networks sell ordinary games.

At least he has 2 QB's that can actually come into a game and play. For all of our talent in the QB room we are a Will Howard injury away from being fucked (ie. The Game).
Does he though? Would you feel confident with Arch Manning starting the rest of the CFP? His best trait is running, I have yet to see him make solid D1 throws against good competition. His best game was against a hapless Miss St team. I'm sure Devin Brown or Julian Sayin could've put up 300yds against a B1G team like Rutgers or Purdue. Arch is living off of fans being in love with his uncles and grandpa, nothing more.

Have wondered about that. Seem to recollect that Arch did not attend any/many camps, and backed off from the Elite 11 (or 30?) competition. Wondered if he was hiding lack of arm strength, accuracy etc. However, gotta assume he's getting throwing reps at UT. And for all the hullabaloo from Ewers, he hasn't performed like 'all that and a bag of chips' as forecast. We'll see how Day & Chip handle tOSU's battle next year, now that it's going to be a clear QB competition, now that Devon has skedaddled, or is trying to.

He also padded his stats playing in a high school division that was pretty much glorified Pop Warner.

Padded stats that didn’t amount to a lot of wins either. At least Ewers played in one of the hardest divisions in TX and played the best of the best and won a lot. Manning never made it out of the 1st round in one of the lowest divisions in LA…
