Hoping for a 20+ point loss for Bevo so Mack Daddy can get off this list:

EDIT: The guys on this site must not know that Ferentz is a 7 time COY. How dare they?

Just sayin': Kirk Ferentz is "unfireable". He probably has one of the most secure jobs in all of college football. He has a contract through January 31, 2020, that pays him between $1.87M and $2.07M per season in base salary, plus another $1.48M per season in "recurring supplemental payments". The buyout clause in Kirk Ferentz's contract mandates that Gary Barta pay him 75% of his base salary if he is terminated without cause. That works out to $18,846,249 as of this week, or $219,142 per month until the contract ends in January 2020. Iowa just can't afford to fire him.

plus this is a perfect case of... can you do better?... and the answer is No... this is Glenn Mason at Minni, and countless other teams mid range teams that fired someone they thought they could do better... now wish they didn't

I totally agree, I posted this a few years ago in another thread:

I'm not enamored with Kirk Ferentz; however, I really think he is doing an excellent job at Iowa. He seems to consistantly get more from less talent than anyone else in the Big 10. I'm pretty sure that Iowa doesn't have that many "top 100 division 1A football prospects" so he has been working primarily with everyone else's leftovers (i.e. he only the gets out of state players from a state (like Ohio) that the major school in that state (like Ohio State) doesn't offer a scholarship to, etc.).

I disagree with this part, Ferentz has gone stale, if not for the money I do believe they could do significantly better. would they? who knows. it is my personal opinion that these teams with no real homegrown recruiting to speak of need to go gimmick. whether that gimmick is air-raid, triple option, wisconsin supersize me, ect ect I dont care but they need to give recruits from chicago, ohio, texas, and california a reason to go to their school instead of boise state, san diego state, tcu, missouri, and the MAC. Playing the same style as all the big boys with less talent and worse facilities gets you beaten 9 out of 10 times so they need to go outside the box to regain that respectability. They have the money, use it and get creative.

I have said similar things in the past, however, that has to change if the Big Ten is going to improve its brand. The best way to do that is hire better coaches.

BTN is a cash cow and schools have to start investing some of that money in coaches and facilities.

Iowa is probably a unique situation because of the crazy stupid contact Ferentz has, but I think the "we can't do better" attitude is part of the overall conference weakness problem. They can do better because they have the money to go out and find the best.

Unfortunately, that can be high risk high reward- see: Arkansas. The schools have to be smart in their searches and smart in how they structure the contracts. Just as importantly, they have to invest the money in keeping high quality assistants on staff.

Iowa was better under Hayden Fry, IMO. He took a program with 17 straight losing seasons, turned it around, and had the second best winning percentage in the B1G in the 1980s, behind scUM. in 20 years, he lost to Wisconsin TWICE, and that was his last two years, one of which he spent undergoing cancer treatment. (they did not play in 93 or 94). For context, Wisconsin led the all time series by 12 games when Fry took over, and the series was tied when Fry left.

Art Bryles just pimp slapped TexPN with his Bear nutz.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...6523/art-briles-on-twitter-i-am-a-baylor-bear

Baylor's disappointing loss to UCF in the Fiesta Bowl could have played a role in Briles' decision to stick with the Bears, but it would be far from the only reason to stay in Waco. The school has invested heavily in Briles and the football program, as the Bears prepare to defend that Big 12 title in a shiny new stadium with new facilities in 2014.

The school later released a full statement from Briles -- one that exceeded 140 characters.

"I have no desire to pursue other coaching positions," Briles said. "As I've said many times, I am both humbled and honored to be the head coach at Baylor University, and believe we have something special going here. I look forward to leading the Bears onto the field next fall at McLane Stadium and defending our Big 12 championship that our players and coaches worked so hard to win this season.

"There is tremendous excitement for our program's future, and I look forward to many more great seasons at Baylor," he added. "There is tremendous commitment from our University leadership, athletic administration, coaches and student-athletes - it truly is a great time to be a Baylor Bear."

4-star DT Zaycoven Henderson decommits from Texas only to recommit then flip to Texas A&M

BOYDLNGVWFB100_34443324-2.jpg

When it comes to recruiting, little should surprise. Four-star Longview defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson decommitted from Texas on Wednesday afternoon only to recommit after speaking to new head coach Charlie Strong. Longview head coach John King confirmed that Henderson had a change of heart and was sticking with the Longhorns. "He's going to Texas," King told ESPN.com. ... "We had a long talk about it. He was a little bit torn, but I just told him Texas is the best place for him and to stick with it. He will." But about an hour later, Henderson caused another stir by flipping from Texas to Texas A&M. Talk about a punch in the gut. This isn’t the first time Henderson switches his commitment. The 6-foot-1, 318-pound Semper Fidelis All-American originally committed to TCU in February before backing out in September. Henderson then committed to Texas on December 9 over Baylor and Texas Tech at a ceremony at his school..

Ever wonder why some coaches hate recruiting?
