Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

Sucks for those kids, but as far as the program…

Rick Neuheisel was actually saying this yesterday. If Tate Ewers doesn't have what it takes to beat out last year's backup QB, and some of the recruiting guys who say Arch Manning would be a 3* with a different last name turn out to be right, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Texas won't be back for awhile.

Quinn Ewers named starting quarterback for Texas Longhorns football

The Texas Longhorns have named Quinn Ewers, the heralded recruit who began his college career early at Ohio State to capitalize on name, image and likeness opportunities before transferring back to his home state, as their starting quarterback.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian told ESPN earlier this week that he had "an idea" of who would be the team's starting quarterback, and would tell the team soon. Ewers, in a tweet earlier this week, hinted an announcement was coming Friday.

Sarkisian said he does not want to rotate quarterbacks, like the team did with Card and Thompson in 2021.

"I think it's hard for a quarterback to get into rhythm that way, and I think you play differently knowing, 'Hey, I don't know how many throws I'm going to get,' and you take too many chances," Sarkisian said. "I just don't think the decision-making is very good."

Hey, good for him.....

It would just be interesting to know how much NIL money Texas has committed between Ewers and Manning....:cash:

And now suddenly the script has flipped, and Ewers is named starter. Knowing the toxic booster culture at that place, it's entirely feasible that Sark was pressured into changing course by boosters. God, what a mess that place is. You just hate to see it.
When they pay good money for a player then they want to see him start.

Last season's quarterback competition in camp between Hudson Card and Casey Thompson, who is now at Nebraska, was not finalized until Aug. 27 — one week prior to the Longhorns' season opener. With the Longhorns' opener coming into view Sept. 3, Sarkisian's decision came sooner this time around and moving forward with one player getting the first-team reps is vital, he said.

With the extra COVID year, Hudson Card has 4 seasons of eligibility to play 3 years left. He was a 4 star recruit and the #2 duel threat QB in the country. He's not going to be happy just sitting behind Ewers and/or Manning for another 3 or 4 years. I look for him to transfer too, especially if he thinks he got "screwed over" and not really given a chance to compete for QB1 this year.

Especially when he might be signed on to be a public spokesman for your company. A lot more ROI if he's the starter. Tejas fan thought that NIL would finally make their "big cigar" culture a benefit, yet it just may turn out that it only makes that culture worse.
And the irony is that their in state rival aTm may have it work better for them
